VOLTERRA Motors Announces Collaboration with Instituto Europeo di Design to Develop Next-Generation Electric Motorcycle Prototype

VOLTERRA Global Technologies Inc., a prominent manufacturer of all-electric powersports vehicles based in the United States, has proudly announced a strategic collaboration with Turin’s Instituto Europeo di Design. This partnership aims to leverage the innovative minds of IED’s master’s degree students to conceive the design for a cutting-edge, fully-electric touring motorcycle. This groundbreaking project underscores VOLTERRA’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle design and technology, reinforcing its position at the forefront of the burgeoning all-electric powersports industry.

This program unfolded during the first semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, where approximately 25 master’s students of the transportation design course at IED Turin showcased their concepts for a two-wheeled “concept bike” under the VOLTERRA brand. The students were oriented about VOLTERRA’s mission to cultivate clean alternatives in the Powersports industry. This initiative emphasizes the core values of VOLTERRA: to deliver products that uphold the range, safety, and riding sensations synonymous with traditional gasoline-powered motorcycles, but constructed with environmentally conscious methods.

The most promising design, the one that best represented the aesthetic and technological ethos of the VOLTERRA brand, was eventually selected for further research and development activities. This final design is an epitome of comfort and utility, accommodating two adults along with additional luggage. The design also optimistically projects an impressive range of over 250 miles on a single charge. More so, it encompasses cutting-edge user interface technology, ensuring a safe and pleasurable riding experience. This design realization aligns seamlessly with VOLTERRA’s aspiration to deliver an eco-friendly, high-performance alternative in the powersports industry.

“Working with students, you can tap into a new level of creativity and vision that is often overlooked at larger corporations with cookie-cutter designs,” said Jose Villegas, Chief Executive Officer of VOLTERRA. “At VOLTERRA, we are looking to create products that are new and exciting to customers, ones that resonate with riders around the world, and we could not be more pleased with the designs developed by the students at IED. The entire experience during this collaboration has been superb, and we look forward to developing a long-term relationship to continue this program in the future.”
