Driving electric vehicle adoption

DocGo Adding Six Electric Ambulances to Its UK Fleet

In line with their commitment to sustainability and innovative healthcare delivery, DocGo Inc. (Nasdaq:DCGO) has recently announced a significant addition to their fleet. Their UK-based subsidiary, Ambulnz Community Partners, is introducing six electric ambulances, a move that marks a major leap towards environmentally friendly medical transportation. The first of these ambulances, launched in collaboration with Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, has already gone into service. From this month onwards, non-emergency patients will be transported to and from Stepping Hill Hospital in these zero-emission vehicles. While the first ambulance has already hit the road, the company is making strides to deploy the rest of its electric fleet as soon as possible, manifesting their dedication to a greener planet and a healthier society.

The new community ambulances will significantly contribute to the environmental targets set out in Stockport NHS Foundation Trust’s Green Plan, introduced in 2022. This initiative includes ambitious goals such as a 75% reduction in business travel emissions by 2030, and an overall decrease in greenhouse emissions by 85% before 2032. The incorporation of electric ambulances into their transportation fleet is a strategic move in line with these objectives, paving the way for sustainable healthcare delivery solutions. By pursuing such innovative and eco-friendly approaches, the Trust is not only revolutionizing patient transportation but also reinforcing their commitment to the fight against climate change.

The newly introduced electric ambulance parallels its diesel counterparts in terms of operational capabilities, offering the same level of quality service and patient care. With a remarkable range of approximately 120 miles before requiring a recharge, the vehicle efficiently caters to non-emergency patient transportation needs within and around Stockport. In addition to these features, the electric ambulance proves to be a cost-effective alternative in the long run. The lower running and maintenance costs associated with these electric vehicles translate into substantial savings for the health service, ensuring better value for money in the long-term. This strategic investment in electric ambulances therefore not only aligns with environmental goals but also contributes to the economic sustainability of the healthcare service.

Natalie Lamb, managing director of Ambulnz Community Partners, commented: “I am delighted to be implementing our first electric ambulance into Stockport. This is one of six electric ambulances we are welcoming into our fleet over the next few months and represents our organizational commitment to help the NHS meet its net zero targets.”

Cathy Lloyd, directorate manager of operational support for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, added: “We’re absolutely dedicated to reducing our carbon transport emissions to help us support the environment, and we’re very pleased our partners at Ambulnz are now helping us to meet this commitment. The new electric community ambulance and its crew are now providing safe, effective transport for our patients in a way which is healthier for the planet as well.”

Proudly owned by DocGo, Ambulnz Community Partners is a vibrant network of local community ambulance services that are dedicated to delivering top-tier urgent and planned care. The organization is making strides in environmental sustainability, with plans to make approximately 8% of their fleet fully electric. Housing its operations in 15 strategic locations across the UK, DocGo boasts a commendable team of approximately 711 operational staff members, and a fleet of about 348 ambulances.
