Gravity Wins First UL Certification of 500 kW Electric Vehicle Charging System

UL Solutions, a paramount entity in applied safety science, has made an exciting announcement today. Gravity’s 500 kW electric vehicle charging systems and power cabinets have become the first 500 kW systems to earn UL certification to UL 2202. This standard is recognized for safety for Direct Current (DC) Charging Equipment for Electric Vehicles. Gravity, a firm specializing in EV infrastructure, is setting a new benchmark in the sector by installing 24 of these UL Certified, 500 kW electric vehicle charging systems at its newly established facility in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, New York City. This remarkable achievement is bound to propel the EV industry to new heights, ensuring safety while promoting sustainable transport solutions.

“This achievement reinforces UL Solutions’ growth and focus on capabilities to serve the EV market with services that help increase confidence in the performance, reliability and safety of products,” said Milan Dotlich, vice president and general manager of the Energy and Industrial Automation Group at UL Solutions. “We are proud to have a part in Gravity’s journey to meet the demand for higher power and faster charging speeds in EV charging equipment.”

UL Solutions conducted a comprehensive evaluation and testing of six EV chargers and two power cabinets from Gravity, assessing their compliance with the stringent safety and performance requirements of UL 2202. This thorough examination encompassed several crucial factors, including power verification, the durability of materials, protection from sharp edges, and considerations for stability and mounting. These measures ensure that EV users are sufficiently protected from any potential risks during the charging process. Furthermore, Gravity’s certified products were subjected to a vast array of performance tests, effectively demonstrating their capability and reliability before finally achieving the esteemed certification to UL 2202. This rigorous certification process underscores Gravity’s commitment to safety, performance, and excellence in the EV charging infrastructure space.

“This is a massive breakthrough for urban charging that will help unlock widespread EV adoption by making it cheaper, faster and more convenient to charge a car than it is to pump gas. Certification to UL 2202 gives our partners confidence that this equipment delivers as promised regarding safety,” said Moshe Cohen, founder and CEO of Gravity.
