Driving electric vehicle adoption

Adopt a Charger Installs EV Charging Stations in Madisonville, Louisiana

On July 8, 2024, Kitty Adams Hoksbergen, Executive Director at Adopt A Charger, announced the nonprofit installed new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Maritime Museum in Madisonville, Louisiana. On her LinkedIn page, Hoksbergen said Cleco and Northshore Community Foundation sponsored the location.

EVinfo.net spoke with Hoksbergen about the tremendous achievement, bringing more EV charging to Louisiana.

“When people spot an EV driving down the road, they don’t automatically notice that the vehicle runs on electricity. The AHA moment happens when they see the car plugged in at places they like to go, and get to ask questions of the driver about the owner’s experience.” says Kitty Adams, Executive Director of Adopt a Charger, “I am grateful to the Northshore Community Foundation and Cleco for supporting Adopt a Chargers efforts to expand charging in the St. Tammany Parish. The charging stations at the Maritime Museum in Madisonville will enable EV tourism, and offer area residents another spot to charge their vehicles.”

Louisiana Ranked 48th in the Nation for Electric Vehicle (EV) Adoption in 2020

Drive Electric USA said: “Louisiana, as of Q1 of 2020, ranked 48th in the nation for electric vehicle (EV) adoption and is just as far behind in the implementation of advanced technology for electric vehicles, such as DC fast chargers.”

Drive Electric Louisiana (DELA) shared a roadmap for EVs in 2021, which is working with stakeholders to incentivize the adoption of electric vehicles. Thanks to efforts from forward thinking organizations such as Adopt a Charger, Cleco, and the Northshore Community Foundation, more EV charging is getting installed, which enables greater EV adoption in the state.

California Leads the Way in US EV Adoption

California has established itself as the leading state for electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the U.S., achieving a 25% EV market share in 2023, according to Veloz, an EV industry nonprofit. This surge in eco-friendly transportation saw California drivers purchasing a record number of new EVs, marking a significant 29% increase from the previous year. The recent report from Veloz and the California Energy Commission highlights this shift in consumer preferences towards more sustainable driving options, indicating a major paradigm shift in the state’s transportation landscape. California accomplished this in a variety of ways, mostly through having the strongest incentives of any state. This serves as a shining example for other states, such as Louisiana, to follow California’s example and increase EV adoption in those states. EVinfo.net is very proud of our home state as the leader of the EV revolution and clean energy in America.
