Engie Failed to Find Buyer for EVBox

On May 17, 2024, Reuters reported “France’s Engie said its electric vehicle charging station business lost 22 million euros ($24 million) in the first quarter and will continue to lose money into next year. Engie has failed to find a buyer for troubled subsidiary EV Box and is now considering selling off the business piecemeal in a bid to limit its exposure, Engie CFO Pierre-Francois Riolacci said on Friday during company results. EV Box lost 140 million euros last year and is “trending toward that same amount” in 2024, he said, adding there would be more losses in 2025.”

How Will This Play Out?

It’s unclear for now how this shutdown will play out, considering the chaos that ensued when EVinfo.net announced Enel X Way’s abrupt exit from the North American market on October 3.

One thing is clear, that the industry will bounce back, and that companies are here to help. During the Enel X Way controversy, Buzze announced it could help Enel X Way users.

The Enel X Way debacle caused great uncertainty in the market, along with a host of problems for home and commercial EV charging customers. These problems could have been avoided, by purchasing home or commercial EV chargers with an underwritten extended warranty, such as the warranty offered by EVSTAR.
