GM EV Sales up 60% Year-over-year in Q3, up 46% Compared to Q2

General Motors recorded a significant milestone in electric vehicle (EV) sales in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024, with 32,195 total EV deliveries, marking a 60% year-over-year increase and a 46% rise compared to the second quarter of 2024. This increase propelled GM to 9.5% of the EV market in Q3, rapidly gaining on all competitors.

GM and its dealers saw a 3% year-over-year increase in retail sales, delivering a total of 659,601 vehicles in the U.S. during the third quarter of 2024, despite total vehicle deliveries being down 2%.

“GM’s EV portfolio is growing faster than the market because we have an all-electric vehicle for just about everybody, no matter what they like to drive,” said Rory Harvey, GM executive vice president and president of Global Markets.

General Motors is experiencing its best year-to-date retail sales in five years, marking three consecutive years of retail market share growth. In the EV segment, the company has achieved notable success, selling over 9,700 Equinox EVs in their first full quarter on the market. Blazer EV sales increased by 21% compared to the second quarter of 2024. GM plans to launch the more affordable Silverado EV LT model in Q4.

Cadillac’s LYRIQ Driving Volume & Share Growth

Cadillac’s retail sales increased by 5% in the third quarter of 2024, marking its best Q3 and year-to-date performance since 2016. The strong and luxurious Cadillac LYRIQ continues to lead the luxury EV market, becoming the first vehicle from a full-line luxury brand to sell over 20,000 EVs year-to-date. LYRIQ’s retail sales surged by 139% in Q3, with more than 7,000 U.S. deliveries for the second consecutive quarter, outperforming all EV nameplates from BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Lexus.

Escalade V-Series sales rose by 12% year-to-date. With these models, Cadillac will offer an all-electric option in every global luxury SUV segment. The VISTIQ, a distinctive electric luxury three-row SUV, will be assembled in Spring Hill, Tennessee, alongside the LYRIQ, with production starting early next year, creating numerous new jobs.

The highly anticipated all-electric 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ and 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ 5-passenger SUV are coming soon in Q4, followed by the electric VISTIQ in 2025.

Combined HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV Sales up 269% Year-over-year

Combined sales of the HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV saw a remarkable 269% year-over-year increase and a 47% rise compared to the second quarter of 2024. GMC also celebrated the first customer deliveries of the exciting Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, which had an average of 62 days to turn. This advanced EV offers impressive performance with an estimated 440 miles of range on a full charge, up to 754 horsepower, 785 lb-ft of torque in Max Power Mode, and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 4.5 seconds.
