Paired Power Installs Solar EV Charging for California American Water, Adds Matthew Miller as Sales VP
Paired Power, a solar canopy and microgrid technology manufacturer, announced installing its solar EV charger, PairTree, for California American Water. This installation is a key part of California American Water’s disaster-preparedness strategy, providing resilient EV charging that doesn’t rely solely on the power grid. By leveraging solar energy, the PairTree system ensures continuous EV charging capability even during grid outages, supporting sustainability and energy independence while enhancing readiness for emergencies.
“We’re honored that California American Water chose Paired Power to help power its electric vehicles,” said Paired Power CEO Tom McCalmont. “We made PairTree with the future in mind, and it’s exciting to see our charging solution being embraced by such a respected and forward-thinking institution that serves three quarters of a million Californians.”
By utilizing the PairTree solar EV charger to power just one vehicle, California American Water will be able to prevent 4,472 pounds of CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere annually, according to the EPA’s emission rates calculator.
“We are excited to work with Paired Power to complete this important project that will allow us to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce costs to customers,” said Kevin Tilden, President of California American Water. “Utilizing Paired Power’s clean electric power and storage reflects California American Water’s disaster-preparedness and commitment to help meet California’s emission reduction goals and improve locals’ air quality, health, and safety.”
Paired Power’s PairTree is a U.S.-made solar canopy that integrates solar power, grid power, and battery storage to offer round-the-clock charging for electric vehicles. By combining renewable energy sources with grid power, PairTree ensures reliable EV charging both day and night.
The PairTree system is designed for durability and ease of installation, requiring less than a day to set up in a standard 9 x 18-foot parking space. It features no moving parts, eliminating the need for ongoing maintenance that is common with other “tracker” solutions. PairTree offers one or two Level 2 charging ports with the J1772 EV interface and is wind-rated up to 130 mph, making it suitable for areas with volatile weather conditions. This design ensures that it provides reliable, low-maintenance charging for both individual and fleet use.
Paired Power’s new solution, PairFleet, addresses the issue of grid inadequacy by expanding the number of EV charging ports available at a site. It achieves this by blending solar power with energy from the existing grid and battery storage. Each installation is customized to suit the site’s grid capacity and the specific energy requirements for EV charging.
