Driving electric vehicle adoption

EVs Obliterate ICE at LA Auto Show

At this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show (LA Auto Show), electric vehicles (EVs) absolutely shut down gas-powered, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Every auto show these days in America is completely dominated by EVs, becoming EV shows instead, with a few gas models receiving little interest. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz sat out the show, however many other great EV models were on display.

The 2024 LA Auto Show began on November 22 and will run through December 1, 2024. AutoMobility LA, the show’s segment for automotive industry leaders, took place on November 22.

Hyundai’s Exciting New Ioniq 9

Hyundai’s exciting new Ioniq 9 was one of the newest EV models displayed at the show. Attendees crowded around the Hyundai booth to get a glimpse.

“Ioniq 9 is more than just that three-row SUV, it’s a game changer. It reflects our commitment at Hyundai to meet customers where they are on their journey towards electrification,” said Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of marketing and product planning at Hyundai Motor America.

Hyundai’s Ioniq 9, showcased at the LA Auto Show, represents the brand’s largest and most advanced EV to date. This full-sized SUV, built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, combines a sleek, yacht-inspired design with an aerodynamic profile, offering a remarkably low drag coefficient. Its spacious interior is tailored for families, featuring innovative seating options such as swiveling captain’s chairs in the six-seat configuration and a flexible storage system that enhances usability.

The interior boasts cutting-edge technology, including dual widescreen displays, recycled materials, and over-the-air update capabilities for adding features post-purchase. Practical touches like charging ports and cupholders across all rows emphasize its family-friendly design, while the expansive cargo space provides ample utility.

Incorporating design elements from Hyundai’s Seven Concept, the Ioniq 9 aims to balance luxury, functionality, and sustainability.

The IONIQ 9’s advanced power electric (PE) system integrates a 110.3 kWh NCM lithium-ion battery mounted within the floor, optimizing stability and interior space. This configuration allows the Long-Range RWD model with 19-inch wheels to achieve an impressive WLTP-estimated range of 620 km, with a targeted energy consumption of 194 Wh/km. Charging is streamlined with the capability to replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW ultra-fast charger. EVinfo.net strongly recommends all of Hyundai’s EVs.

Kia America Hosts World Debut of EV9 GT at 2024 LA Auto Show

Kia America unveiled the high-performance 2026 Kia EV9 GT SUV at the LA Auto Show, emphasizing both power and innovation in its design. This three-row electric SUV features dual motors delivering a combined 501 horsepower, enabling a targeted 0-60 mph acceleration of just 4.3 seconds. The EV9 GT also introduces an Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) for enhanced ride adaptability, marking a first for Kia SUVs. Additional upgrades include larger front brakes, an electronic limited-slip differential for improved handling, and unique styling elements such as neon green brake calipers, exclusive interior accents, and sportier seating.

“You’ve now got a family hauler that when you push the green button on the steering wheel, it now gives you over 500 horsepower. Zero to 60 in about four seconds. That’s like Ferrari territory just a few years ago,” said Kia spokesperson James Bell.

The model will include Kia’s Virtual Gear Shift technology, simulating gear changes for a more engaging driving experience. The EV9 GT will also adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, ensuring compatibility with Tesla’s Supercharger network without adapters starting in 2025. Production is set to begin in Korea, with the vehicle expected to arrive in the latter half of 2025. Pricing is anticipated to start in the high $70,000s, reflecting its premium features and performance upgrades. EVinfo.net heartily recommends all Kia EVs.
