Honda Unveils Electric Motorcycle Concept Models at EICMA 2024

Honda has introduced two new electric motorcycle concept models, the EV Fun Concept and the EV Urban Concept, at EICMA 2024 in Milan, Italy. EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori), or the Milan Motorcycle Show is an annual trade show featuring motorcycles.

These models represent Honda’s latest advancements in electric mobility, aligning with its goal of leading the electric motorcycle market. The EV Fun Concept, Honda’s first electric sports model, is set to go on sale in 2025, offering an exciting new option for sports enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the EV Urban Concept reflects Honda’s vision for the future of urban mobility, emphasizing practicality and sustainability for city environments. Looking beyond 2025, Honda plans to expand its electric lineup significantly, reinforcing its commitment to pioneering electric solutions in the motorcycle industry.

Honda is setting ambitious goals for carbon neutrality, aiming for its products and corporate activities to achieve this milestone by 2050, with a specific target for all motorcycle products in the 2040s. To reach these environmental targets, Honda is prioritizing the electrification of its motorcycles as a core strategy. This journey begins in 2024, designated as the starting year for Honda’s global launch of electric motorcycles. From 2024 to 2026, Honda is focused on entering the electric motorcycle market, with plans for significant business expansion after 2026.

Among Honda’s latest concepts, the EV Fun Concept stands out as a naked sports model equivalent to a mid-sized internal combustion engine motorcycle. Announced during Honda’s 2023 briefing on its electric motorcycle strategy, this electric sports bike is geared for enjoyment and is Honda’s first sports model with a fixed battery, slated for release in 2025. The EV Urban Concept, on the other hand, represents Honda’s vision for urban electric mobility with a design centered around functionality, connected features, and an internally developed battery pack.

These motorcycles are part of Honda’s larger plan to introduce 30 electric vehicles globally by 2030, aiming to build a comprehensive lineup that caters to a wide range of customer needs. Through these initiatives, Honda is not only working toward sustainability but also striving to lead the global electric motorcycle market.

EV Fun Concept

Honda’s EV Fun Concept, its first electric sports motorcycle, is being crafted as a next-generation model that delivers an entirely new riding sensation, defined by the quiet, smooth feel unique to electric power. Building on Honda’s expertise in motorcycle performance, this model combines precise handling, smooth turning, and responsive stopping with a vibration-free, silent ride. The slim, manageable design, achieved through a fixed battery, promises an experience that sets it apart from traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles, creating an emotional and refreshing experience for riders.

The EV Fun Concept also incorporates Honda’s automotive and power product technologies. Designed for urban practicality, it includes a CCS2 quick-charging system, the same used in electric cars, ensuring convenient and rapid recharging. The battery balances a lightweight build with quick-charge capabilities and provides a range of over 100 kilometers, ideal for city commuting. Honda believes this innovative electric riding experience will enrich customers’ lifestyles by bringing a modern twist to their motorcycle journeys.

EV Urban Concept

Honda’s EV Urban Concept reimagines urban electric mobility from the ground up, reflecting the brand’s vision for a connected, people-centered future. Designed with streamlined, modern styling and an intuitive human-machine interface (HMI), the EV Urban Concept goes beyond traditional transport by blending advanced software and hardware to create unique, interactive experiences. This approach aims to harmonize the vehicle with its users and the urban landscape, providing a seamless connection between rider, machine, and environment.
