President-Elect Trump’s Second Administration Should Work to Keep EV-Jobs in America, Not Cede Ground to China
The American EV Jobs Alliance is alarmed to learn that President-elect Trump and his transition team are planning on repealing the $7,500 consumer tax credit for EV purchases. According to news reports, the transition is also considering repealing the 45W leasing tax credit, which allows for highly affordable EV leases. According to Politico, by just June of this year, these policies have saved American EV consumers $1.5b. In addition to the positive impact these policies are having on EV-demand, they are also helping to fuel the American EV-manufacturing industry. In total, American EV investments have grown to $188 billion and are on pace to create almost 200,000 jobs nationwide.
Mike Murphy, the Founder and CEO of the American EV Jobs Alliance, said: “This is very unfortunate news for American consumers and autoworkers who are benefitting from the $188 billion surge in new manufacturing capacity in the U.S. to design and manufacture the vehicles of the future and to compete globally. This means lost jobs, more pollution, and a strategic advantage to our competitors in a rapidly growing Chinese automotive industry.” We believe the Trump administration would be misguided to include such a repeal in any future budget proposals or negotiations. Ironically, much of the new spending in EV-related manufacturing jobs would be in Republican states, benefiting the constituencies of Republican governors, senators, and congressional representatives. We hope they will speak up and defend the growing American manufacturing industry, which both creates manufacturing jobs and strengthens American national security. The American EV Jobs Alliance plans to vocally oppose these policy measures.

Topics include the public perceptions of EV vs ICE brands, the fascinating consumer re-evaluation of Elon Musk, and a summary of which pro-EV messages work — and don’t work — to break down the political divide slowing EV adoption in America. Mike will also talk about how charging has become a major issue among consumers considering an EV for long-distance travel and for consumers living in multi-family buildings. It’s an insightful and entertaining multi-media presentation seen by Automotive OEM CEOs, the SAE, leading politicians in Washington DC, and many EV advocates.
