I met Adam Roe of Zero Labs Automotive recently, and am sure glad I did. Roe is the Founder, CEO and Product Architect at the super-cool Zero Labs Automotive, based in Hawthorne, CA. I was very excited to speak with Roe about Zero Labs Automotive’s bold and compelling newest release, the iconic Zero Labs Automotive 5-door Electric Land Rover Series 109.

Zero Labs represents the only scalable solution for 99% of the world’s current vehicles, starting with the most iconic models.”

Unlike DIY retrofit kits available for Land Rovers in recent years, this latest release is a ground-up reengineered classic, integrated with a high-capabilities electric platform. Designed from the start to be electric, this model offers a truly modern driving experience with classic appeal. The original Land Rover Series 109, produced from 1966 to 1977, was a rugged and iconic off-road vehicle known for its versatility and durability. Zero Labs reimagines the classic design with an updated all-electric drivetrain for today’s need for sustainable transportation.

The new 5-door Electric Land Rover Series 109 incorporates Zero Labs‘ Generation 4 classic electric platform and features a redesigned interior with flat floors, providing 25 percent more space. The vehicle includes features enhancing safety, capabilities, and aesthetics, all tailored to meet the needs of a classic electric vehicle. It also boasts impressive road performance, including adjustable ride height, auto-sensing rack-and-pinion steering, one-pedal driving, a 600-horsepower dual-motor setup, independent suspension, a range of over 250 miles, and optional Level 3 DC quick charging.

Zero Labs has reengineered the classic design with modern comfort in mind, including laser-cut precision signature front vent flaps with perfect 1mm tolerances to preserve the iconic aesthetic. Alongside this, the vehicle features upgraded heating and air conditioning systems, ensuring a comfortable driving experience while maintaining the timeless appeal of the original design.

The reimagined Zero Labs 5-door Land Rover Series 109 interior features include a fully rebuilt body with remastered details, and custom options for soft or hard tops. The vehicle also boasts adjustable seating, electric windows, and doors, along with LED lighting and handmade panels. It features 18” steel wheels with a durable powder coat finish and integrates iPod connectivity and Bluetooth.

In terms of performance, this 100% electric vehicle is powered by a 100 kWh battery offering an estimated range of over 235 miles. It includes dual AWD electric AC motors with 600 HP and 300Nm torque, independent suspension, and a digital gauge cluster. The vehicle is equipped with a CAN-enabled digital control system, a maximum RPM of 18,000, and an onboard charger. The battery and charging systems are upgradable, and a 24-month repair warranty ensures long-term reliability. Exact performance may vary based on customer configurations.

New electric models from Zero Labs, including the Electric Land Rover Series 109, feature newly designed analog-style gauges, faithfully recreated from the original designs, with no giant touchscreens or obtrusive electric indicators.
