Ford’s Trailblazing Free EV Charging Installation Extended to March 31, 2025
The Ford Power Promise is an innovative program designed to make the transition to electric vehicles as seamless and convenient as possible. By providing customers with dedicated advisors and support from day one of ownership, the initiative focuses on ensuring a smooth and stress-free EV experience. The program emphasizes convenience, peace of mind, and personalized assistance, helping customers navigate everything from finding charging stations to understanding available incentives and rebates.
The commitment is designed to save time and money for Ford customers, making the shift to electric vehicles more accessible and affordable in the long run. Given the program’s success, Ford has decided to extend the Power Promise into 2025, continuing to provide valuable support for those embracing electric vehicles. This extension underscores Ford’s ongoing dedication to its customers and its role in promoting the growth of EV adoption. When you buy or lease your new Ford electric vehicle up until March 31, 2025, you’ll receive a complimentary charger and standard installation.
Stacey Ferreira, Director, Retail Execution & Innovation at Ford, released a LinkedIn article about the groundbreaking program on January 3, 2025. As a first-time EV buyer, Ferreira could easily relate to struggles that early EV adopters face today.
“When my husband and I bought our first electric vehicle, we had so many questions. How do we fill it up? Where do we fill it up? Do we need special equipment? What happens if we get stuck driving between Phoenix and Los Angeles? There are no oil changes, but do we need to do anything special for maintenance? It was a learning curve, and yet, I knew from my day-to-day job at Ford many people have these questions when navigating the transition,” said Ferreira.
EV Intenders Are Still Understanding the Value
Based on average vehicle use, almost half of new vehicle shoppers in the U.S. are well-suited to drive an electric vehicle, though many underestimate the potential savings on fuel and maintenance. With many U.S. households owning two or more vehicles and having access to a driveway or garage, electric vehicles present an ideal solution. In addition to bypassing the gas pump, all-electric vehicle owners benefit from lower scheduled maintenance costs, making it a smart choice for individuals and families looking to reduce their overall cost of ownership. Plus, the ability to charge at home eliminates the need to visit gas stations, saving both time and money—less stress, more convenience.
Ford has made this transition easier by providing customers who purchase a new electric vehicle with the tools they need to get started, including a complimentary home charger and standard installation. This effort has been a success: approximately 85% of the complimentary home charger installations claimed through the Ford Power Promise have been considered standard installations, meaning there are no additional out-of-pocket costs for customers after their vehicle delivery. This initiative is making it easier for customers to embrace electric driving and enjoy the long-term benefits it offers.
It’s Not Range Anxiety, but Change Anxiety
For customers considering electric vehicles, convenience, proximity, and cost are the key factors that truly matter. While many electric vehicle models, including those from Ford, offer a range of over 300 miles, the challenge often lies in charging on the go. People are accustomed to looking for gas stations with their familiar bright neon signs, but electric vehicle charging stations are often not as visible. However, this doesn’t mean they aren’t there—90% of Americans live within a 13-mile drive of a charger in the BlueOval Charge Network.
Ford has taken these three priorities—convenience, proximity, and cost—to heart when designing its electric vehicle experience. To enhance convenience, Ford made it easy for customers to find public charging locations directly in their vehicle, whether through the Connected Navigation system, Apple EV Routing via CarPlay, or Android Auto with Google Maps. For proximity, Ford offers access to the BlueOval Charge Network, the largest public charging network in North America, which now includes over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers with a fast-charging adapter.
When it comes to cost, Ford streamlined the process by enabling customers to find and pay for charging using one account and one app—the FordPass App—making the entire charging experience simpler and more user-friendly. This thoughtful integration ensures that Ford electric vehicle owners have a seamless experience when it comes to keeping their vehicles charged, whether at home or on the go.
Battery Confidence
When considering or driving away with a new electric vehicle, it’s natural to have questions and face a learning curve. Many potential electric vehicle owners may wonder about the lifespan of the battery and whether they’ll need to replace it or purchase a new one online. The good news is that Ford electric vehicle batteries are designed to last for more than 10 years and maintain 90% of their health even after 100,000 miles. Similar to a traditional gas engine, these batteries can also be repaired if necessary.
To address these concerns and provide ongoing support, Ford introduced a 24/7 support line that allows customers to opt in and text directly with a real-life, dedicated Ford electric vehicle advisor. This personalized assistance ensures that drivers can quickly get the information and help they need. In addition, Ford has enhanced its existing Roadside Assistance program to include proactive charging support and towing services, offering extra peace of mind in the event that a customer runs out of charge. All of this is backed by Ford’s comprehensive eight-year/100,000-mile high-voltage battery warranty, reinforcing the commitment to making electric vehicle ownership a seamless and worry-free experience.
The Numbers Behind Ford Power Promise
Customers are experiencing more convenience and support than ever before with the Ford Power Promise. Across all 50 states, Ford owners are now filling up at home by taking advantage of the complimentary home charger and installation offer. The process has become quicker too, with an impressive 11-day average from quote to installation of the home charger, and an outstanding 96% satisfaction score for the installation work provided by Ford’s partner, Qmerit.
Support for electric vehicle owners has also expanded significantly. The 24/7 support enrollment has seen a dramatic increase, with enrollments more than quadrupling month-over-month since the program’s launch. Additionally, customers are embracing electric vehicles in greater numbers than ever before, with Ford dealers in 40 out of 50 states reporting an increase in monthly average electric vehicle sales in Q4 compared to the year-to-date average. Notably, Nebraska has seen the highest year-over-year growth, with a remarkable 143% increase.
Ford and Other EVs Enjoyed Fantastic US Sales Gains in 2024
2024 proved that EV interest and EV adoption is here to stay and continues to grow quickly. Total Ford electrified vehicle sales (hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric) hit a record 285,291 in 2024, up 38%, outselling GM and Stellantis’ electrified vehicles for the full year.
Other automakers had outstanding EV sales in 2024 as well. According to Cox Automotive’s Kelley Blue Book, EV sales grew by 15.2% year-over-year in the fourth quarter, reaching 365,824 units, setting a new quarterly record. The full year of 2024 saw 1.3 million EVs sold, marking a 7.3% increase from 2023.
EVinfo.net commends Ford for its innovative Power Promise program, and we hope other OEMs will follow this great example, encouraging more EV adoption in the United States.
