Driving electric vehicle adoption

GM Using AI to expand America’s EV charging network

The growth of artificial intelligence (AI) in the United States has been significant, driven by substantial investments from both the private and public sectors. Major tech companies and startups are advancing AI technologies in areas like healthcare, autonomous vehicles, finance, and retail, while the U.S. government is supporting AI research through initiatives like the National AI Initiative Act. AI is transforming industries, creating new job opportunities, and improving efficiency, but also raising concerns about job displacement and ethical issues such as biases and privacy. With increased adoption across various sectors, the U.S. is focusing on addressing these challenges while fostering innovation and developing regulatory frameworks to ensure responsible AI use.

At EVinfo.net, we have incorporated AI into our business operations. One example is our free AI-generated EV Images, generated in Google Gemini.

GM is Picking the Best New EV Charging Sites with AI

General Motors (GM) is incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to enhance the accessibility of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the United States. By using these advanced technologies, GM aims to pinpoint the most strategic locations for adding new charging stations, improving the overall EV infrastructure.

GM is leveraging AI and machine learning to strategically identify locations for new EV charging stations across the U.S. By using predictive analytics and geospatial algorithms, GM’s data scientists evaluate EV traffic patterns to determine optimal sites. The AI approach treats site selection as a mathematical optimization problem, factoring in criteria like traffic flow and charger proximity. The resulting model, supported by detailed maps, is combined with expert insights to finalize the placement of stations. In collaboration with partners like Pilot Flying J and EVgo, GM is turning these AI-driven insights into real-world charging infrastructure, addressing the growing demand for EV stations and facilitating broader EV adoption.

GM is Growing EV adoption with Expanded Public Charging Access

In 2024, General Motors (GM) reached an all-time high in EV sales. All four of GM’s brands—Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac—saw notable sales gains in 2024. Specifically, GM’s electric vehicle (EV) sales surged by 50% for the year, with the fourth-quarter sales climbing 125%. As a result, GM nearly doubled its market share in the EV sector, finishing as the #2 EV seller in the U.S.

However, the challenge of locating charging stations still concerns many prospective customers. To address this, GM has partnered with industry leaders like EVgo and Pilot Travel Centers to expand public charging options. Together with EVgo, GM is adding 2,850 DC fast charging stalls, including 400 high-power 350kW chargers in major U.S. metropolitan areas, featuring easy-to-navigate layouts, weather-resistant canopies, and enhanced lighting for safety. Additionally, GM and Pilot Travel Centers are installing up to 2,000 DC fast chargers at 500 travel centers, enhancing long-distance travel convenience, with over 130 locations already open, offering drivers amenities like dining and clean restrooms while they charge.
