Driving electric vehicle adoption

GM’s Total US EV Sales Up 125% in Q4, Up 50% in 2024 Compared to 2023

As we predicted at EVinfo.net, GM’s EV sales in America continue to soar. All four of GM’s brands—Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac—saw notable sales gains in 2024. Specifically, GM’s electric vehicle (EV) sales surged by 50% for the year, with the fourth-quarter sales climbing 125%. As a result, GM nearly doubled its market share in the EV sector, finishing as the #2 EV seller in the U.S. during the second half of 2024. Additionally, GM continued its dominance in the full-size pickup and SUV markets. It was the leading seller of full-sized pickups for the fifth consecutive year, with the highest annual sales since 2007, and it maintained its position as the top seller of full-size SUVs for an incredible 50th straight year.

GM had a highly successful 2024, marked by significant growth in both overall sales and market share. The company increased total sales by 4%, reaching 2.7 million vehicles, the highest level since 2019. This brought GM’s estimated market share for the year to 16.5%. The company also met its inventory target with about 54 days of stock remaining at year-end.

“It was a great year for us across our product lines,” said Rory Harvey, GM executive VP and president of global markets. “How did we do it? By investing to have the best portfolio in the industry. We have something for everyone, no matter what they like to drive.”

General Motors (GM) saw a continued upward trajectory in its electric vehicle (EV) sales throughout 2024. In the fourth quarter, GM sold 42,000 EVs, an increase of 10,000 units from the third quarter, and nearly double the number of units sold in the second quarter. This strong growth contributed to a higher-than-industry-average Q4 transaction price of nearly $53,000, while the company also managed to reduce incentive spending per vehicle.

Sales were strong across all GM brands in 2024. Chevrolet, in particular, saw a 1.5% increase in sales, reaching its highest level since 2019. Key contributors included the Equinox EV, which saw an 85% increase in Q4 sales compared to Q3, and the Trax, which led the small SUV segment with an 84% rise in sales for the year. Overall, Chevrolet’s fourth-quarter sales were up 17%.

Cadillac also had a stellar year, posting its best full-year and quarterly sales since 2016. The strong demand for the Escalade, which maintained its position as the #1 large luxury SUV for the 11th consecutive year, and the LYRIQ, the best-selling electric mid-size luxury SUV, were major drivers of this success. Cadillac’s fourth-quarter sales surged 35%. Additionally, deliveries of two new electric SUVs, the VISTIQ and OPTIQ, are set to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

GMC had its best-ever year, with a 9% increase in total sales and a remarkable 33% spike in Q4 sales. Both the Sierra and Canyon had their best years in history, while the Denali sub-brand, celebrating its 25th anniversary, also posted record sales.

Buick saw a 10% increase in sales, marking its highest total since 2021. The Envista, in particular, was a standout model, with a 57% jump in fourth-quarter sales.
