Lucid’s Gravity Grand Touring EV Will be Powered by Panasonic’s Battery Cells, Boasting Range up to 450 Miles
The Lucid Gravity Grand Touring, set to redefine the luxury SUV market, stands out due to its combination of impressive range, high performance, and spacious interior. Powered by Panasonic Energy’s latest-generation lithium-ion battery cells, the vehicle delivers an EPA-estimated range of up to 450 miles, a remarkable achievement given the battery pack’s size is up to 40% smaller than those of competitors. This collaboration has resulted in an SUV that provides an exceptional balance of range, performance, and interior space. Lucid Gravity orders are now open on the Lucid website, orders opened in December.
The Lucid Gravity Grand Touring brings a groundbreaking level of versatility, offering up to 120 cubic feet of usable cargo space, all while maintaining the exterior footprint of a mid-size SUV. It’s designed to comfortably seat up to seven adults, providing a sophisticated and practical driving experience. The vehicle is also performance-focused, with 828 horsepower that enables it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds—a remarkable feat for an SUV.
At the heart of the vehicle’s capabilities are Panasonic Energy’s 2170 cylindrical lithium-ion cells, which boast an industry-leading energy density of over 800Wh/L. These advanced cells were specifically engineered for fast-charging, safety, longevity, and performance—ideal for a vehicle that demands both efficiency and power. Lucid Gravity is among the first vehicles to leverage these next-generation cells on a large scale.
Panasonic has a strong reputation for high-quality, reliable battery cells, having supplied around 15 billion lithium-ion batteries globally by the end of 2023, without any recalls due to battery issues. This track record, combined with Lucid’s advanced powertrain system, further underscores the exceptional quality of the Lucid Gravity.
“Lucid Gravity is truly the first SUV that does not force customers to compromise,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO at Lucid. “It brings together a previously impossible combination of attributes with the interior space of a full-size SUV, the performance of a sports car with supreme comfort, and an EPA rated range of up to 450 miles. Through our advanced technology and collaboration with Panasonic, we have achieved this with an impressively small battery pack compared to competitors. This is critical to preserving earth’s precious resources and I look forward to our continued work with Panasonic as we further sustainable mobility for the benefit of all.”
The Lucid Gravity Grand Touring, starting at $94,900, began production in December 2024 at Lucid’s Arizona factory. Later in 2025, the Lucid Gravity Touring will also feature Panasonic’s 2170 batteries and will start at $79,900. Panasonic’s new production facility in Kansas will further support the future production of these advanced battery cells.
“We are extremely proud of our collaboration with Lucid. By combining our high-performance, high-energy density cells with Lucid’s technology, we have been able to utilize the unique characteristics of our cylindrical cells, resulting in a SUV with unparalleled performance and range. This underscores our continued efforts in aiming to set new standards in the EV industry and contributing to a sustainable society,” said Kazuo Tadanobu, CEO of Panasonic Energy.
