Willdan Getting $17.7M EV Charging and Solar Contract for CA School District

On March 20, 2025, Willdan Group, Inc. announced that it has been selected for a significant $17.7 million contract to provide engineering and construction oversight services for the Paramount Unified School District (USD). This project will bring crucial sustainability initiatives to the district, as it includes the installation of 2.2 megawatts (MW) of solar arrays and 44 Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across 11 school sites. These upgrades are expected to offset more than 1,100 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, contributing significantly to the district’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

This initiative not only supports the district’s environmental goals but also provides long-term energy savings. The solar arrays will harness clean, renewable energy, while the EV charging stations will help facilitate the transition to electric vehicles for students, faculty, and visitors.

This project represents a significant step toward the greening of educational infrastructure. The new solar systems will power various school facilities while reducing dependence on fossil fuels, directly aligning with broader state and national efforts to combat climate change. Additionally, the introduction of EV charging stations will enable the district to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles, making sustainable transportation more accessible to its community.

“This project builds on Willdan’s 50-year working relationship with the City of Paramount and our ongoing work with school districts across the U.S.,” said Mike Bieber, Willdan’s CEO. “We thank Paramount USD for this opportunity to support their investment in long-term sustainability and their commitment to clean energy.”

Headquartered in Paramount, California, Paramount USD serves a diverse community across several cities, including Bellflower, Compton, Lakewood, Long Beach, and South Gate. The district operates 11 elementary schools, five middle schools, one comprehensive high school, and numerous other educational facilities. Paramount USD is dedicated to fostering academic excellence while integrating sustainability into its operations. To learn more about the district, visit www.paramount.k12.ca.us.
