BYD, Electric Vehicles UK Partner to Accelerate UK’s Move Towards a Fully Electric Future
BYD announced a partnership with Electric Vehicles UK (EVUK), an industry-to-consumer organization dedicated to accelerating the United Kingdom’s transition to a fully electric transport future. The company posted the news on January 26, 2026.
Founded in 2024, Electric Vehicles UK aims to make electric mobility more trustworthy, accessible, and easier for consumers to understand. The organization works to challenge misinformation surrounding electric vehicles and campaigns to reduce the barriers that prevent drivers from making the switch to battery-electric mobility.
As the UK’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles, including fully electric and plug-in hybrid models, BYD supports EVUK’s mission to engage consumers, policymakers, and the media on the benefits of battery-electric vehicles. Through the partnership, BYD will gain access to a wide range of consumer-facing events, while both organizations will strengthen coordination across public, industry, and media engagement activities.

Commenting on the partnership, Bono Ge, Country Manager of BYD UK, said: “We’re delighted to be joining EVUK to fully support its mission to increase consumer awareness of electric vehicles. Together we aim to explain the various benefits of owning an electric car – from a smoother, quieter drive, responsive performance and reduced running costs – by providing accurate information to the public. In doing this, we’ll move closer to our ultimate goals of achieving global climate targets and improving air quality.”
Tanya Sinclair, CEO of Electric Vehicles UK, said: “I am delighted to welcome BYD as a partner of EVUK. They are innovators in EV technology and are among the global manufacturers moving away from fossil-fuelled vehicles and accelerating the UK’s transition to an all-electric future. BYD’s partnership with EVUK strengthens our ability to provide clear information and insight that helps build confidence and demand for all electric vehicles in the UK.”
Electric Vehicles UK brings together EV industry stakeholders and experienced EV drivers promote EV adoption. The organization’s core team consists entirely of EV drivers who have collectively driven more than one million electric miles.
EVUK is further supported by an advisory board, an expert panel, more than 100 founding members and partner organizations, and a growing community of over 1,000 EV drivers.

Common EV Myths
Electric vehicles (EVs) are frequently misunderstood, with common myths focusing on poor environmental performance, limited range, and high costs. Realities show EVs have a lower lifetime carbon footprint, increasing range (often >250 miles), and lower operational costs. Key misconceptions include, but are not limited to, the following. The Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation debunks them here.
Environmental & Battery Myths
- Myth: EVs are worse for the climate than gas cars due to power plant emissions. Fact: EVs have a smaller carbon footprint, even considering the electricity grid mix, as they have no tailpipe emissions.
- Myth: Battery manufacturing makes EVs dirtier than ICE vehicles. Fact: Although manufacturing is energy-intensive, EVs offset this “carbon debt” within 11,000–77,000 miles (depending on the study).
- Myth: EV batteries can’t be recycled. Fact: Battery recycling is expanding, and many components can be repurposed.
- Myth: Batteries die after a few years. Fact: Most EVs have 8-year/100,000-mile warranties, and battery life is often 15+ years.
Range & Charging Myths
- Myth: EVs don’t have enough range for daily use. Fact: Modern EVs typically offer over 250 miles of range.
- Myth: There is nowhere to charge. Fact: Charging infrastructure is growing rapidly, with over 75,000 public chargers in the UK alone.
- Myth: Charging takes too long. Fact: Most charging happens at home overnight; fast chargers can add significant range in 10–30 minutes.
- Myth: Range is unusable in cold weather. Fact: While range decreases in the cold, it is still sufficient for most daily needs, as proven in cold climates like Norway.
Cost & Safety Myths
- Myth: EVs are too expensive. Fact: While upfront costs are higher, the total cost of ownership is generally lower due to cheaper fueling and maintenance.
- Myth: The power grid will collapse. Fact: Utilities are planning for increased demand, and charging during off-peak hours mitigates grid pressure.
- Myth: EVs are less safe/prone to fire. Fact: EVs must pass the same strict safety tests as gas cars and are actually less likely to catch fire, with a lower center of gravity reducing rollover risks.
Operational & Other Myths
- Myth: EVs are slow. Fact: Electric motors provide instant torque, offering faster acceleration than many gas-powered vehicles.
- Myth: EVs require more maintenance. Fact: EVs have fewer moving parts, eliminating the need for oil changes, spark plug replacements, and transmission repairs
