Charlotte, NC Adds All-Electric Vector Fire Truck, Opens the Southeast’s First All-Electric Firehouse
In December 2025, the Charlotte, North Carolina Fire Department announced it has added the Spartan Corp. All-Electric Vector fire truck, named Engine 30, to its fleet. This move marks a significant turn toward sustainability for the future with cleaner, quieter, more cost-effective emergency response technology. The department worked with Atlantic Coast Fire Trucks in customizing the truck to meet its specific needs at its new all-electric fire station.
The project, a city facility with a total budget of $16.39 million, was constructed by Swinerton Builders and is now fully operational. This new station represents an important investment in public safety infrastructure for the community.
VECTOR™ ELECTRIC: 100% Electric Power, Enduring Performance
The Vector™ Electric is North America’s first fully electric fire truck, designed by Spartan ER to energize firefighting operations while reducing air and noise pollution. Capable of performing 100% of fire ground duties on electric power alone, the Vector combines unrivaled battery performance with modern, customizable design to meet the needs of urban and rural departments alike. With a high-capacity 327 kWh battery, it delivers the longest electric pumping duration in the industry, ensuring dependable service for extended operations.
The truck’s electric motor replaces a traditional diesel engine, powering both the pump and the rear axle in normal split-shaft operation. Optional range extender diesel backup is available for off-grid use during emergencies such as blackouts, hurricanes, or earthquakes, but is not required for standard urban operation. NFPA and ULC certifications ensure the Vector meets rigorous safety and performance standards, with pumping capacities up to 1,250 GPM (4,739 LPM) on electric power and 1,500 GPM (5,680 LPM) with the range extender. Water and foam tanks up to 530 gallons (2,000 L) are also available.

Vector’s low center-of-gravity battery placement improves handling and stability while enhancing occupant safety. Its modular, North American-style cab, body, and pump house allow full customization to meet department specifications. Designed with the same proven components used in traditional diesel fire apparatus, Vector delivers a familiar operational experience while providing a cleaner, quieter, and more efficient solution for modern firefighting.
