Mazda 6E Launching as a Global, China-Made Electric Sedan, in Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia

The Mazda 6e, marketed in China as the EZ-6, is being rolled out globally as a China-built electric sedan. While it is already on sale in China, Mazda has confirmed expansion into Europe, the UK, Australia, and select Southeast Asian markets, though full global distribution details have not been finalized.

In China, the model has been available since October 2024 under the EZ-6 nameplate, offered in both pure battery electric and range-extended EV variants.

The European debut took place in January 2025 at the Brussels Motor Show, with left-hand-drive sales beginning in mid-2025 across key markets including Germany and the Netherlands. The UK is scheduled to receive a right-hand-drive version in summer 2026, with pricing details announced in early 2026.

Australia is targeting a mid-2026 launch, following local validation and testing programs conducted throughout 2025. In Southeast Asia, Thailand has been confirmed, with potential expansion into Indonesia and Malaysia under evaluation.

The Mazda 6e/EZ-6 was developed through Mazda’s joint venture with Changan Automobile and is manufactured in Nanjing, China.

The All-New Mazda 6e

Starting from £38,995 (recommended on-the-road price), the all-electric Mazda 6e blends Japanese craftsmanship with advanced EV technology. Depending on the destination market, the vehicle is equipped with either a 78 kWh or 80 kWh battery pack. It delivers up to 348 miles of WLTP range and supports rapid DC charging up to 195 kW, enabling a 30% to 80% charge in approximately 15 minutes under optimal conditions.

The range-extended electric configuration pairs a 1.5-liter JL473QJ inline four-cylinder engine with a rear-wheel-drive electric propulsion system. The gasoline engine, displacing 1,480 cc, produces 70 kW (94 hp / 95 PS) and functions as a generator within the range-extender architecture. Propulsion is delivered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor rated at 160 kW (215 hp / 218 PS) and 320 N·m of torque.

The standard configuration utilizes an 18.9 kWh CALB lithium iron phosphate battery pack, providing a claimed electric-only range of 130 km (81 miles) under CLTC testing and 105 km (65 miles) under WLTP. This version has been in production since 2024.

An extended-range variant is equipped with a larger 28.4 kWh CALB LFP battery, increasing the claimed electric range to 200 km (124 miles) under CLTC and 160 km (99 miles) under WLTP. This configuration has also been available from 2024 to the present.

Designed around Mazda’s Jinba Ittai philosophy, the Mazda 6e creates a seamless connection between driver and car. The cabin reflects minimalist Japanese aesthetics inspired by the concept of “Ma,” emphasizing calm, open space with intuitive technology integration. A 14.6-inch central touchscreen pairs with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a large head-up display, while voice and gesture controls enhance usability. A 14-speaker Sony audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and advanced climate controls further elevate comfort and connectivity.

The exterior features Mazda’s Kodo design language with a coupé-inspired silhouette, frameless doors with flush handles, signature LED lighting, and an electrically deployable rear spoiler. Nineteen-inch aerodynamic wheels balance efficiency and dynamic presence. Inside, premium materials, including Maztex vegan upholstery or available Nappa leather, create a refined atmosphere, complemented by 64-colour ambient lighting and an expansive panoramic sunroof.

Practicality matches performance. The hatchback layout offers 466 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,074 litres with rear seats folded, plus a 72-litre front storage compartment. With a towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg, the Mazda 6e supports both daily needs and weekend adventures.

Advanced safety systems include Smart Brake Support, Lane Keeping Assist, Emergency Lane Keeping, Rear Collision Warning, and a 360° View Monitor. Nine airbags and a high-strength steel structure enhance occupant protection, while the battery is housed in a reinforced casing.

Owners benefit from a six-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty. Through the dedicated Mazda 6e app, drivers can manage charging, climate pre-conditioning, remote locking, and even Bluetooth® key-based vehicle sharing.
