Lucid Picks Auto Industry Outsider as CEO, Expands Uber Deal

CNBC reported on April 14, 2026, that Lucid Group has appointed Silvio Napoli, the former chairman and CEO of Schindler Group, as its new chief executive. Napoli, who spent nearly 31 years at Schindler, will become the company’s second CEO following the departure of founder Peter Rawlinson in February 2025.

Current interim CEO Marc Winterhoff will transition into the role of chief operating officer once Napoli officially assumes leadership. According to the company, Napoli is expected to begin in the coming weeks, pending completion of his relocation from Switzerland and U.S. visa processing.

Lucid also announced $750 million in expanded investment from an affiliate of Public Investment Fund and Uber Technologies. The Uber portion includes an additional $200 million investment, expanding a prior agreement that now includes a commitment to purchase at least 35,000 Lucid vehicles designed for a future global robotaxi network. That is up from the earlier plan of $300 million and 20,000 vehicles announced in July. The PIF-backed portion totals $550 million.

Napoli also serves on the board of Eaton Corporation and does not have prior experience leading an automotive company, unlike Rawlinson and Winterhoff, both longtime industry veterans.

Lucid said Napoli’s operational expertise, financial discipline, and track record in innovation position him to guide the company’s next phase, including the rollout of midsize EVs and expanded autonomy initiatives. Chairman Turqi Alnowaiser emphasized that Napoli’s strength in capital allocation and operational efficiency will be critical as the company scales and executes its long-term strategy.
