Hyundai’s Ioniq V EV Opens Pre-Sales in China, Starting From $17,600

On August 21, 2026, Car News China reported that Beijing Hyundai has opened pre-sales for the new fully electric Ioniq V in China, with prices starting at 119,900 yuan ($17,600). The new model made its official pre-sale debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show and is the first vehicle introduced under Hyundai’s new Ioniq EV brand in China.

The Ioniq V is designed specifically for the Chinese market, with the development led by Hyundai China Design Centre. Hyundai says the “China-first” approach could eventually bring the vehicle’s design and concepts to global markets. The Ioniq V was first revealed at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show and later appeared in Chinese regulatory filings.

Three versions are available:

• Standard Edition: 119,900 yuan ($17,600)
• Smart Driving Edition: 129,900 yuan ($19,100)
• Long-Range Edition: 139,900 yuan ($20,600)

The Ioniq V features a sharp, modern design with flat surfaces, a closed front panel, split lighting, a fastback profile, frameless doors and blacked-out window trim. Buyers can choose from eight exterior colors, including Cyber Gold, Dimension Purple, Gamma Green, Magnetic Grey, Photon White, Flowing Silver and Night Blade Black.

The vehicle measures 4,900 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,470 mm tall, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase.

Inside, the Ioniq V features Hyundai’s “Nebula Wrap-around” cabin design, Alcantara materials, bright accents and ambient lighting. A 27-inch 4K central display is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 processor. The infotainment system integrates AI large-language models including Baidu’s Ernie Bot and ByteDance’s Doubao. A “Cyber Eye” head-up display is also available.

For driver assistance, the Ioniq V uses Momenta technology for high-speed assisted driving.

Power comes from a single electric motor producing either 140 kW (188 hp) or 168 kW (225 hp). The vehicle uses either a 53.5 kWh or 66.8 kWh CATL LFP battery, depending on configuration. The Ioniq V uses Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture and an 800-volt electrical system.

Four CLTC range ratings are offered: 520 km, 540 km, 620 km and up to 650 km.

The Ioniq V gives Beijing Hyundai a competitively priced EV designed around the preferences of Chinese consumers, while potentially providing a foundation for future Hyundai models in other markets. Hyundai has not announced plans to sell the Ioniq V in the United States or Europe.

In April 2026, Hyundai Motor officially launched its IONIQ all-electric lineup brand in China.
