Alpitronic Demonstrates HYC1000 System, Fast-Charging the New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé

On September 4, 2026, pv magazine reported that Alpitronic demonstrated its HYC1000 system at the ICNC26 event at Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin on September 3, 2026, using the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé. Charging power quickly surpassed 500 kW before reaching more than 600 kW. The charger display showed 612 kW during the demonstration and later approximately 620 kW.

Mercedes-AMG developer Johannes Nab said the vehicle’s 800-volt battery was engineered for sustained high-power charging. The battery uses directly cooled cells and technology inspired by Formula 1. Mercedes-AMG says the vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 11 minutes.

The automaker also estimates that 10 minutes of charging at 600 kW can add more than 460 kilometers of WLTP range.

Italian EV charging equipment manufacturer Alpitronic introduced the HYC1000, a distributed DC fast-charging system capable of delivering up to 1 MW of total power and charging as many as eight electric vehicles simultaneously.

The system uses a central power cabinet connected to separate charging dispensers. The cabinet supports up to eight DC outputs, with available power dynamically distributed between vehicles in 62.5 kW increments. This allows charging-site operators to shift available power between charging points based on demand rather than dedicating fixed power electronics to individual chargers.

The HYC1000 incorporates eight second-generation silicon carbide power stacks. Each stack provides 125 kW and up to 400 amps, with efficiency exceeding 98%, according to Alpitronic.

The HYC1000 operates from 150 V to 1,000 V and provides up to 600 amps per output. Alpitronic offers multiple dispenser configurations, including an MCS dispenser supporting up to 1,500 amps, a dual-CCS2 EV dispenser and a liquid-cooled high-power dispenser capable of exceeding 1,000 amps.

The system is designed for highway charging hubs, commercial fleets and destination charging. Its distributed architecture could help operators make more efficient use of limited electrical capacity while supporting multiple high-power charging sessions.
