Taiga Brings Industry-First Geofencing to its Electric Off-Road, Watercraft Fleet
Taiga, a Canadian manufacturer of electric off-road vehicles and watercraft, has announced a major update to its vehicle operating system with the launch of OS-5. The new software introduces inbuilt mapping and what the company describes as industry-first geofencing technology, giving riders, fleet operators and the manufacturer greater control over vehicle behavior in designated areas.
At the center of OS-5 is a new geofencing capability designed to improve rider safety and manage access to waterways and trails beyond the road. Vehicle owners and fleet managers can create custom geofenced zones where Taiga watercraft or snowmobiles automatically govern their speed. The feature is designed to provide safer operation for new riders while allowing rental operators to establish custom zones and self-guided routes away from shorelines and other potential hazards.
Taiga is also introducing manufacturer-set geofences that can be implemented in cooperation with local communities. These zones are designed to protect waterways, trails and natural habitats by automatically enforcing safe, low-speed travel when vehicles approach sensitive ecological zones, wildlife habitats, busy tourist areas and shorelines.
“Our mission goes beyond simply being electric; it’s fundamentally improving how riders interact with the outdoors and communities around them,” said Taiga’s CTO. “With our industry-first geofencing, we are giving owners and fleet operators an unprecedented tool to automatically manage speeds in high-traffic and sensitive zones to provide silent, zero emission and safer riding experiences.”
The OS-5 update also adds built-in mapping, allowing riders to navigate trails and waterways directly from the vehicle’s dashboard. Taiga designed the software as a foundational platform for continuous over-the-air updates and enhanced autonomous capabilities in the future.
The new operating system features were displayed at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. Taiga will begin rolling out the update to compatible personal watercraft and snowmobiles in the coming weeks through remote software updates.

A Growing Lineup of All-Electric Snowmobiles and Personal Watercraft
Taiga Motors is taking electrification beyond the road with a growing lineup of all-electric snowmobiles and personal watercraft. The Canadian company was founded with a focus on electrifying powersports, developing purpose-built electric powertrains for demanding outdoor environments. Its current lineup includes the Nomad snowmobile family and Orca personal watercraft.

The Orca lineup brings electric propulsion to personal watercraft, combining performance with quieter operation and simplified ownership. The Orca P2 produces up to 120 kW, carries two riders and offers up to two hours of stop-and-go riding. DC fast charging can replenish the battery in less than 30 minutes. Taiga says the electric platform eliminates fuel, oil changes and winterization requirements associated with conventional watercraft.
Taiga’s newer Orca WX3 expands the platform to three riders, with a crossover design intended for touring, tow sports and other recreational uses. The company says the 2026 Orca lineup adds DC fast charging and bidirectional vehicle-to-grid capability, allowing the watercraft to potentially provide power during an outage or support equipment away from the grid.
On snow, the Nomad is designed as a utility-focused electric snowmobile capable of towing up to 1,125 pounds and traveling up to 62 miles under stated test conditions. Level 3 charging can reach 80% in about 40 minutes. Taiga offers Nomad models ranging from the Scout to Performance and Pro configurations.

The advantages of electric powersports extend beyond emissions. Electric drivetrains provide quieter operation, require less routine maintenance and eliminate gasoline and oil from the riding experience. Taiga says its mission is to make outdoor exploration quieter, cleaner and simpler while accelerating the electrification of off-road vehicles.
