Driving electric vehicle adoption

2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV Comes to USA in October, Priced From $37,745

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) announced pricing for the all-new 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback, a battery-electric vehicle that will launch in the United States in October 2026 with a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $37,745. The Eclipse Sportback will be offered with just one available option, the Technology Package, priced at $2,600.

The Eclipse Sportback combines styling, technology and efficiency and represents a major step in Mitsubishi’s North American product strategy. It is the company’s first all-new vehicle to debut under its Momentum 2030 business plan.

The electric vehicle offers up to 282 miles of range on a single charge using a 75-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery. All Eclipse Sportback models support Level 1 and Level 2 charging using the SAE J1772 format as well as Level 3 DC fast charging through the North American Charging Standard (NACS) format. Mitsubishi says the charging options are designed to make charging convenient both at home and on the road.

Mitsubishi Motors is not new to electric vehicles. The company says its EV journey began in 1966 and has continued through its plug-in hybrid technology and battery-electric vehicles.

Momentum 2030 is Mitsubishi Motors’ five-year North American business plan and is built around four key areas: a path to electrification, a renewed and expanded product lineup, a modernized retail sales model, and network expansion and sales growth.

As part of the plan, Mitsubishi has committed to introducing at least one new or completely refreshed vehicle every year between fiscal 2026 and fiscal 2030. The company also plans to expand into additional vehicle segments.

Momentum 2030 also includes plans for a modernized retail sales model, expanded dealer network and sales growth.

Following the Eclipse Sportback, Mitsubishi plans to introduce an all-new rugged, off-road derivative of the Outlander SUV in early 2027. Additional new models are planned for the future as Mitsubishi increases its emphasis on adventure-oriented and off-road-capable vehicles.

The company says the strategy reflects a shift in consumer preferences toward vehicles that are more rugged and versatile. Mitsubishi intends to expand its lineup while maintaining multiple powertrain choices for customers.

Mitsubishi also plans to re-enter the pickup truck segment in North America through its collaboration with Nissan. The move is intended to further expand the brand’s reach and relevance in the U.S. market.

The company’s future powertrain lineup will include gasoline-fueled internal combustion engines, mild-hybrid systems, full-hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid systems and battery-electric vehicles.

Mitsubishi says offering multiple powertrain technologies is driven by customer choice. The company recognizes that consumers have different needs and reasons for selecting a particular vehicle and powertrain.

The Eclipse Sportback will also feature Mitsubishi Motors Confidence, which includes one of the industry’s leading warranty packages. Coverage includes a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain and battery limited warranty, an eight-year/100,000-mile battery capacity warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, a seven-year/100,000-mile anti-corrosion/perforation limited warranty, a two-year/30,000-mile limited maintenance program and five-year/unlimited-mile roadside assistance.

The $37,745 MSRP does not include a destination fee of $1,995. The destination fee is $2,120 in Hawaii and Alaska. Mitsubishi notes that dealers establish the final selling price.

Mitsubishi Motors North America is responsible for the sales, marketing and customer service of Mitsubishi vehicles in the United States through a network of approximately 300 dealer partners.

MMNA is headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, with corporate operations in California, Georgia, Michigan and New Jersey.

EVinfo.net’s Take: This Is Exciting! The USA Needs More Battery Electric Model Choices

EVs are the most cost effective vehicles, as well as the most eco friendly.

On World Environment Day 2009, Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the i‑MiEV, a compact all-electric car that paved the way for the automotive industry’s seismic shift towards mass-produced electric vehicles (EV). Its 16-kilowatt battery offered a driving range of up to 62 miles.

The average real-world driving range for 2026 model year battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is approximately 325 miles, according to data from Recurrent analyzed by MotorTrend Group.

An exciting revolution is taking place worldwide. Polluting, expensive to own gas cars are quickly being replaced by clean, cost-saving EVs.

Between January and June this year, the share of gasoline-only cars in global new vehicle sales fell below 50% for the first time ever as the Strait of Hormuz crisis and resulting record-high fuel prices accelerated the historic shift toward electric vehicles, the most significant change in transportation since the demise of the horse-drawn carriage.
