Driving electric vehicle adoption

Ford Lightning Owners Power Homes After Hurricane Helene

One of the most important features of electric vehicles (EVs) is to provide power during electric grid power outages, using Vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology. V2H is important for keeping power on this week as Hurricane Helene devastated the Southeast.

The devastation from the recent disaster has been staggering, with at least 115 confirmed dead across six states. Unfortunately, officials fear that the death toll could climb higher, as many people are still missing, likely stranded or unable to reach out to their loved ones due to the destruction of communication networks.

In the Carolinas, hundreds of roads remain closed, making it tough to get much-needed supplies to those affected. Additionally, over 2 million people are still without power, according to poweroutage.us, further complicating relief efforts.

Ford F-150 Lightning Owners Power Homes with V2H in Helene’s Aftermath

Ford F-150 Lightning owners posted on Reddit to report on their situations, and how their Ford Lightning electric trucks are supplying much-needed power to their homes after the devastating storm.

SMeekWoodworks said: “My family is safe and fed thanks to my Lightning. I’m in Western North Carolina near Asheville, where we’ve been hit badly by Helene, as I’m sure most of you have seen. I’m so thankful for this truck! Been running my fridge, freezer, well, and a few lights (and maybe most importantly, the espresso machine) on it since early Friday morning.”

spacedtrav said: “I live in South Carolina and haven’t had electricity since Friday due to hurricane Helene. We have been running our fridge, a fan, our living room tv, a laptop, and a fish tank on the truck. I started at 80% and after 3 days, I am down to 51%.”

Beneficial_Net_6651 said: “3 hours of back up so far truck is still at 100% (Charged to 100% yesterday in anticipation of needing it) not running A/C but everything else is running in a 4,000 square-foot house.”

Help Victims of Hurricane Helene

EVinfo.net is heartbroken to hear about the devastation of Hurricane Helene. We urge our followers to support hurricane victims through donating to the American Red Cross. We urge the state governments and the federal government to provide as much help as possible.

Ford F-150 Lightning Partnered with SunRun on its V2H Home Integration System

The revolutionary Home Integration System, co-created by Sunrun and Ford, seamlessly integrates electric vehicle charging with home energy management, allowing users to optimize energy usage and enhance their home’s sustainability, using Ford Home Backup Power.

With this partnership, homeowners can leverage solar energy to charge their Ford electric vehicles while also powering their homes. The Home Integration System enables features such as vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging, which allows the vehicle to act as a backup power source during outages. This cutting-edge solution not only simplifies the charging experience but also contributes to reducing energy costs and reliance on the grid.

Keep Your Lights On and More

In the event of a power outage, Ford’s Home Integration System allows you to tap into 9.6 kW of power from your Ford electric truck to support your essential devices. This means that lights stay on, food remains fresh, phones and computers stay charged, your Wi-Fi continues to operate, and much more.

Energy for Days

Even during extended outages, you can keep the power flowing by harnessing the storage capacity equivalent to more than 10 home batteries. The F-150 Lightning boasts impressive battery life, making it well-equipped to handle weather or grid disruptions that last multiple days. This innovative system not only ensures that your home remains powered but also enhances your energy independence and resilience.
