GM’s New Energy Storage Options for EV Owners and Homeowners, the GM Energy PowerBank

GM Energy is expanding its energy solutions portfolio with the launch of the GM Energy PowerBank, a stationary storage product aimed at enhancing the energy flexibility for EV owners and households. Available in two battery capacity variants—10.6 kWh and 17.7 kWh—the PowerBank offers several key functions, including storing energy from the grid and solar power systems, providing backup power during outages, and helping reduce electricity costs during peak demand periods. The product’s compatibility with solar equipment allows customers to capture and store solar energy for later use, either for charging EVs or powering their homes. With this release, GM is outpacing home energy storage competitors with a superior product.

Additionally, by combining two 17.7 kWh PowerBanks, consumers can create a 35.4 kWh system, which is capable of powering an average American home for up to 20 hours. This makes the PowerBank a versatile solution for energy management, whether or not the household has an electric vehicle.

GM Energy has also expanded access to its energy management products to consumers across all 50 states, broadening the availability of these innovative solutions.

“One of the core differentiators of GM Energy’s portfolio is its modularity,” said Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy. “The flexibility of our energy management tools, combined with one of the market’s largest lineups of vehicle-to-home-capable EVs, gives our customers more control over their energy use, helping to mitigate the impact of power outages, integrating renewable energy options and unlocking additional values.”

The GM Energy PowerBank is available for purchase as part of the GM Energy Home System bundle, which offers a comprehensive energy solution for EV owners and households. This bundle includes the GM Energy PowerShift charger and the GM Energy Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) Enablement kit, designed to optimize energy storage, transfer, and charging capabilities.

Customers who have already invested in the GM Energy V2H Bundle can easily expand their setup by adding the PowerBank for additional stationary storage.

For those integrating solar power, GM Energy has partnered with Qmerit, a preferred installer, to provide professional services like site assessments, compatibility evaluations, and personalized quotes to ensure a smooth setup.

Like the rest of GM Energy’s V2H products, the GM Energy PowerBank and compatible solar systems can be managed through GM’s brand mobile apps, enabling users to monitor and control their energy usage and storage effortlessly. This system provides a seamless and integrated approach to energy management, empowering users to optimize their power usage, especially when leveraging solar energy.
