EVS38: International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition, Gothenburg, Sweden, June 15-18 2025
The Electric Vehicle Symposium is back in Europe from 15 to 18 June 2025 in Gothenburg, Sweden. As an e-mobility pioneer, EVS38 is the leading event dedicated to the electrification of all modes of transport. It brings together manufacturers, authorities, and researchers from across the world, taking pace in a different location in either Asia, Europe, or the United States every year, always with the goal of promoting clean and sustainable mobility. This year, the organizers are expecting over 10,000 visitors and around 1,500 experts from more than 70 countries.
A unique congress that brings together public, private, and academic organizations
EVS38 is co-organised by AVERE, the European Association for Electromobility, the city of Gothenburg, and the Lyon-based agency Live! By GL Events, with the support of Business Region Gothenburg and Gothenburg & Co. The aim of the event is to share the latest electric vehicle research, technology, and innovations (including batteries, power supply, propulsion, manufacture and automation, electric vehicle interiors, and parking, as well as software and AI, fleet management, and mobility solutions). It is a unique networking opportunity for professionals in the sector, facilitating strategic cooperation and partnerships in order to explore the future of electric mobility together.
The event also aims to educate the public and decision-makers while raising awareness of the advantages and challenges electric vehicles present. This is done through talks by world leaders in the industry, presentations of the latest innovations in the sector, high-level discussions, and a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
As part of the Symposium, a series of parallel events will be organized in collaboration with the industry and universities to engage the wider public. To this end, EVS launched a call for abstracts last June, allowing researchers, academics, professionals, and other experts in the e-mobility sector to submit their research or project abstracts in the form of scientific articles. They will be examined by 200 reviewers chosen from a panel of experts, and the selected works may be presented orally or in the form of e-posters during the event. The best 100 articles will be published in the World Electric Vehicle Journal, the leading international scientific review for scientific searchers related to battery-powered, hybrid, and fuel cell electric vehicles. Researchers have until the 1st of November to submit their article on the event platform.
Electric mobility: a crucial issue for Europe
With the energy transition picking up speed and becoming a critical issue for the entire planet, the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced at the beginning of the year that global sales of electric vehicles had increased by 20% in 2024. In Europe, there has been significant public and private investment in new technology and production units, which has been greatly encouraged by European legislation on decarbonization.
The European Commission has also recommended a 90% reduction in greenhouse gases, and estimates that Europe needs to invest an additional 92 billion Euros in “net zero” technology before 2030, making it even more crucial for countries and industry to significantly speed up their activities and work in this sector.
Gothenburg, a veritable European e-mobility hub
As the birthplace of brands such as Volvo, Polestar and Heart Aerospace, the city of Gothenburg is at the heart of the entire mobility and transport value chain and is home to a wide range of innovative companies at the cutting edge of e-mobility. Moreover, Sweden ranks among the most advanced countries in Europe in terms of electric mobility, seeing a constant growth (e.g., an increase of 36% in the proportion of rechargeable vehicles compared to the total number of cars between October 2022 and October 2023) and numerous R&D investments in electric mobility technology.
The country is very committed to promoting e-mobility and has implemented several initiatives in order to encourage the switch to electric vehicles: providing grants for purchasing EVs, increasing the number of public charging points (+78 % in 2023, or 32,000 charging stations), and collaborating with private companies in order to develop and roll out new e-mobility solutions. Finally, public information campaigns are carried out on a regular basis in order to inform people of the advantages of EVs and how to use them efficiently.
Gothenburg is a center for innovation and an authority in public-private cooperation, having one of the most complete and progressive mobility value chains in the world. What is more, the port of Gothenburg is the largest in the Nordic countries, making the city the automobile and logistics capital of Scandinavia, and therefore the ideal place to hold an event such as EVS38.
