European Production Confirmed for SC-01, a Chinese-Developed EV Sports Car Inspired by Lancia Stratos
A Chinese-designed electric sports car, manufactured in Italy, aimed at hardcore driving enthusiasts and openly inspired by the legendary Lancia Stratos would have sounded far-fetched just a few years ago. The SC-01 is exactly that, and it is nearly ready for market.
The car originated as a grassroots project by Chinese startup Gongjiangpai, founded by motorsport enthusiast Feng Xiaotong, before securing backing from technology giant Xiaomi. After regulatory challenges delayed its initial launch, a partnership with Jiangling Motors Electric Vehicle brought it to the Chinese market as the JMEV 01 in April 2025. Attention has now shifted to Europe, where a more exclusive version will be produced in Italy in a strictly limited run of 1,000 units.

The design makes no attempt to hide its inspirations. A sharp wedge profile, short overhangs, and an ultra-low roofline of just 1.17 meters echo classic rally-era supercars, with the Stratos resemblance unmistakable and interior minimalism recalling the Alfa Romeo 4C. At 4.11 meters long, it is shorter than the Alpine A110, with compact dimensions that define its character and set it apart from the increasingly large and heavy electric performance cars common today.
Weight is one of the SC-01’s most impressive achievements. At a claimed 1,365 kilograms, it is exceptionally light for a battery electric vehicle, made possible through a race-style tubular chassis, aluminum body panels, and a rear mid-mounted battery pack positioned directly behind the seats. Early evaluations suggest its center of gravity sits even lower than that of the Porsche 911.

The interior reflects the same philosophy. There is no large central touchscreen, no attempt to soften the experience. A single digital instrument display, physical switches, carbon fiber bucket seats, minimal sound insulation, and a firm suspension setup make the priorities clear. This car is built to engage the driver.
Power comes from dual permanent magnet synchronous motors producing a combined 429 horsepower and 560 newton meters of torque, with a zero to 62 mph time of 2.9 seconds. Unusually, the driver can select between all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or front-wheel drive modes. A 60 kWh NMC battery pack provides an estimated WLTP range of 430 to 450 kilometers for the European version, with a 30 to 80 percent charge taking just over 30 minutes.

Customer cars will not be available through traditional order books. Instead, buyers will be selected through an invitation-based system, with pricing estimated at around 60,000 euros. Even at that level, the SC-01 positions itself as a compelling alternative to upcoming electric sports cars from established European brands, many of which are expected to arrive later and at significantly higher prices.
