Canada Invests $10.9 Million in EV Charging Infrastructure and Education Initiatives
The Government of Canada is continuing to expand support for electric vehicle adoption through new investments in charging infrastructure and public education. On July 30, 2026, the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, announced $10.9 million in funding for 22 projects across Canada designed to increase access to charging stations and improve public understanding of electric vehicles and charging technology.
A significant portion of the funding will be distributed through the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which supports the deployment of new charging stations across the country. The largest recipient is Hydro-Québec, which will receive $5 million to install 100 Level 3 DC fast chargers. The project will expand the province’s Electric Circuit network by adding chargers at existing locations or nearby sites, increasing charging capacity, reducing wait times, and improving access during periods of high demand.
Additional infrastructure funding will support charging deployments in multiple provinces. Ivy Charging Network received $2.08 million to install 44 chargers in Ontario, while QuantumEV Inc. was awarded more than $573,000 to deploy 74 chargers. CapEV Group Ltd. secured $410,000 to install 82 Level 2 chargers across British Columbia and Ontario. AUX Energy will add nine chargers in Fort Frances and Sudbury with support from a $360,000 grant. Other projects include new fast chargers in Staples, Ontario, additional Level 2 charging stations in Coquitlam, British Columbia, charging infrastructure in the Town of Caledon, and 21 Level 2 chargers to be installed by Ontario Power Generation.

The federal government is also investing heavily in education and awareness initiatives through the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative. The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs received $250,000 to develop a national bilingual toolkit and resource center focused on EV charging infrastructure, emergency preparedness, fire safety guidance, and public education. New Brunswick Power Corporation secured $200,000 to host charging demonstrations, train first responders, and provide educational programs for vehicle sales professionals.
Electric Mobility Canada received funding for two separate national projects. One initiative will focus on building the knowledge and partnerships needed to connect electric vehicles with Canada’s electricity grid, while the second will create practical resources for fleet operators, municipalities, and utilities planning charging infrastructure projects. Additional national programs will address EV-ready infrastructure in multi-unit residential buildings, provide guidance for parking facility operators, and develop educational materials to improve charging literacy among students.
Several regional projects will bring hands-on EV experiences directly to communities. Natural Indigenous Solutions Abound will conduct EV test drives and charging demonstrations in Indigenous and rural communities across Vancouver Island. Free Ride EV will operate mobile charging demonstration vehicles throughout Manitoba, while Clean Nova Scotia Foundation will host public test drive events and educational programs for students. In Alberta, the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley will support both charging infrastructure planning and winter EV education programs. The City of Yellowknife will host public EV education events and a fleet management conference focused on charging and vehicle electrification in northern Canada.
The latest funding announcement reflects Canada’s broader strategy of pairing infrastructure investments with education and outreach. By expanding public charging networks while helping drivers, businesses, fleet operators, educators, emergency responders, and local governments better understand electric vehicles, the federal government aims to remove barriers to adoption and support continued growth in Canada’s electric transportation sector.
