Driving electric vehicle adoption

EV Energy Group Announces 40 New Charging Ports in Springfield, Illinois

EV Energy Group announced that Springfield’s City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) has expanded public electric vehicle (EV) charging access with the addition of 40 charging ports across nine locations near key shopping, tourism, and business destinations throughout the city.

The initiative was funded through a $629,000 grant from the Illinois Community Charging Program, which supports the deployment of Level 2 charging infrastructure in communities across the state. The new stations are part of CWLP’s broader Smart City strategy, aimed at growing Springfield’s electric vehicle network and advancing clean energy transportation options.

The charging locations include the University of Illinois Springfield Lot I near TRAC, Parkway Pointe on Freedom Drive, the intersection of W. Wabash Avenue and Drawbridge Road, the Wabash Trail Parking area at W. Wabash Avenue and S. Park Avenue, Municipal Center West on Monroe Street, Lincoln Home National Historic Site at 7th and Edwards Streets, the Y Block between 4th and 5th Streets, and the Old State Capitol area at 5th and Washington Streets. A charging site at the BOS Center on Washington Street is expected to become available once construction is complete.

Most stations are now operational, with a few remaining installations and utility connections still underway. The project significantly expands Springfield’s public charging network, providing residents and visitors with more convenient opportunities to charge electric vehicles while supporting the city’s long-term sustainability goals.

John Truckenbrod, Founder & CEO of EV Energy Group, spoke with EVinfo.net about the impressive accomplishment.

Truckenbrod said: “On a personal note, being part of this project in Springfield means a great deal to me. In the early 1980s, I completed a two-year internship with the Illinois Department of Corrections here in Springfield. That opportunity helped me earn my master’s degree from what is now the University of Illinois Springfield. So, more than 40 years later, to come back to Springfield and see EV Energy chargers installed at UIS and throughout the city is something I’m especially proud of.”

“This project is about more than installing charging equipment. It is about building infrastructure that will serve Springfield residents, visitors, students, and EV drivers for years to come. EV Energy Group is very proud to have played a role in making that happen. Congratulations to the City of Springfield, and thank you for allowing us to be part of this project,” continued Truckenbrod.

The project represents a major collaboration between public agencies, private companies, and infrastructure partners working together to advance EV adoption in Springfield. The deployment includes the first National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) and Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) curbside charging installation in Illinois.

Key organizations involved in the project include the City of Springfield, Illinois, and its municipal utility, City Water, Light and Power, which helped lead the expansion of local EV infrastructure. The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce supported regional collaboration, while the Illinois Finance Authority provided project funding.

Engineering services were provided by Hanson Professional Services, with B&B Electric handling installation. EV Energy Group served as the system integrator and supplied Illinois-fabricated charging pedestals designed to support the project’s deployment requirements.

Natalie King, Founder & CEO, Dunamis Charge, said: “This project shows what’s possible when American companies commit to American manufacturing. From engineering to installation to hardware, every piece of this deployment was built domestically — and Dunamis Charge is proud to have supplied the BABA-compliant charging technology, manufactured right here in Detroit.”

Additional partners supporting the project include EVXY, which operates the charging network and manages charging services, and Site Pro Tek, which delivers security solutions for the charging locations.

EVSTAR provided comprehensive EV charging warranty support for the project. EVSTAR builds confidence through dependable warranty programs that keep infrastructure running, customers charging, and businesses moving forward.

“Springfield’s expansion shows what’s possible when public agencies and infrastructure partners align on a shared goal. EVSTAR is proud to be part of that collaboration, providing the warranty support that gives everyone involved, and everyone who uses these chargers, confidence the infrastructure will keep running,” said Holly Audiss, VP of Client Success at EVSTAR.

The project demonstrates how coordinated partnerships can accelerate the development of reliable EV charging infrastructure while supporting local economic growth, clean transportation goals, and the broader transition toward electric mobility in communities across Illinois.

EV Energy Group Delivers a Turnkey Approach to EV Charging Infrastructure

The EV charging industry has no shortage of hardware vendors, software platforms, and installation contractors. What remains in short supply are companies capable of bringing all those pieces together into a seamless, scalable charging solution. That is where EV Energy Group has carved out its niche.

Based in Chicago, EV Energy Group focuses on delivering turnkey EV charging solutions for commercial properties, multifamily housing, municipalities, fleets, retailers, fuel stations, and auto dealerships. Rather than pushing a single charger brand, the company works with a wide range of leading manufacturers and relies on Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) standards, giving customers greater flexibility when selecting hardware and expanding their networks over time.

A key differentiator is the company’s end-to-end approach. EV Energy Group assists customers through every phase of deployment, from site planning and engineering to installation, network management, and ongoing operations. The company also helps customers identify grants, incentives, and funding opportunities that can significantly reduce project costs.

At the center of its ecosystem is EVXY, the company’s charging network management platform. EVXY provides charger monitoring, pricing controls, performance analytics, driver access, and nationwide charging network connectivity through a single platform. The system is designed to simplify operations for site hosts while delivering a reliable experience for EV drivers.

As EV adoption continues to accelerate, charging infrastructure is becoming a critical amenity for businesses, residential communities, and public agencies. Success increasingly depends on selecting solutions that can adapt as technology evolves. By combining hardware flexibility, software management, and turnkey project support, EV Energy Group is helping customers deploy charging infrastructure that meets today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s growth.

The company’s focus on interoperability and customer-driven solutions reflects a broader shift within the charging industry. Property owners and fleet operators are looking beyond simply installing chargers; they want systems that are easy to manage, financially sustainable, and capable of supporting long-term electrification goals. EV Energy Group’s comprehensive approach positions it to play an important role as organizations across North America continue investing in EV charging infrastructure.
