Driving electric vehicle adoption

Georgia EV Advocates Push For More State Incentives As Market Grows

Georgia’s electric vehicle (EV) market continues to expand, prompting the Electrification Coalition to call for additional state support for EV adoption, charging infrastructure, and continued economic development. Atlanta’s WJBF reported the news on September 23, 2026.

The national nonprofit EV advocacy organization is exploring state funding and policy options that could help Georgia sustain its EV growth.

Georgia currently does not offer a broad state tax credit for consumers purchasing an EV. Instead, EV owners pay an annual alternative-fuel vehicle fee of approximately $239.

“We are engaged in state-level as well as federal-level policy,” said Anne Blair, vice president of policy and freight for the Electrification Coalition. “So this is encouraging everything from additional funding being allocated to programs to increasing economic development projects in the community.”

The Electrification Coalition estimates that Georgia has approximately 160,000 registered EVs. As the number of electric vehicles increases, the organization says additional charging infrastructure will be needed, particularly along major transportation corridors.

Priority areas include Interstate 20 through Augusta and Interstate 16 between Macon and Savannah.

Georgia has also attracted billions of dollars in private investment related to EVs and battery manufacturing. The Electrification Coalition estimates that approximately $24 billion in private EV investment has been committed to the state, helping establish Georgia as part of the nation’s “Battery Belt.”

Among the investments is Hyundai’s multibillion-dollar EV and battery manufacturing project in Georgia.

The Electrification Coalition is also monitoring the next federal surface transportation reauthorization bill and wants federal transportation funding to continue supporting electrification and charging infrastructure.

“The previous one was the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and that put billions of dollars into supporting the transportation system, particularly electrification,” Blair said. “We want to see that continue in the next bill.”

The organization says additional investment could expand charging access in underserved communities while helping Georgia prepare for increasing numbers of electric trucks, buses, and other heavy-duty vehicles.

The Electrification Coalition plans to continue working with Georgia utilities and regulators as the state’s EV market develops.

Senator Jon Ossoff Supports EV Adoption

U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) has championed major federal investments to expand electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, supply chains, and charging infrastructure across Georgia.

Since his election, Sen. Ossoff has built bipartisanship in the Senate to achieve meaningful legislative results for Georgia, even in a divided Congress. In his first two years in office, Sen. Ossoff passed into law more standalone bills than any other freshman Senator.

The 2026 United States Senate election in Georgia will be held on November 3, 2026, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Georgia. Smart and capable Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff is seeking a second term.

Vote for and support Ossof and other candidates who support EVs and renewable energy.
