Volkswagen Unveils New ID. Tiguan Electric SUV For Europe With Up to 600 km of Range
Volkswagen unveiled the new ID. Tiguan on October 9, 2026, introducing an electric SUV that will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5 in early 2027. More than 950,000 units of the two models have been built. The new ID. Tiguan will launch alongside the existing Tiguan with gasoline, diesel and hybrid powertrains.
Volkswagen describes the ID. Tiguan as one of its most important electric models for the coming years. The midsize SUV features a completely redesigned exterior, a higher-quality interior and a new cockpit layout. Its design emphasizes a more substantial SUV appearance, with precise lines, sculpted surfaces and traditional pull-style door handles replacing the softer crossover styling of its predecessors.
Thomas Schäfer, Volkswagen brand CEO, Head of Brand Group Core and member of the Group Board of Management, said the Tiguan is the company’s best-selling model worldwide, while the ID.4 and ID.5 are among its most successful electric vehicles. He said the ID. Tiguan combines these successes through confident design, intuitive operation and a range of up to 600 kilometers using the MEB+ platform. The ID. Tiguan will be produced in Emden, Germany, alongside the combustion-engine Tiguan manufactured in Wolfsburg.

Volkswagen will offer three powertrain configurations. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version produces 140 kW (190 PS) and uses a 58 kWh battery. A more powerful rear-wheel-drive model delivers 210 kW (286 PS) with a 77 kWh battery. The range-topping 4MOTION all-wheel-drive version produces 220 kW (299 PS) and also uses a 77 kWh battery. Depending on the battery, powertrain and equipment configuration, WLTP range reaches up to 600 kilometers (373 miles). Volkswagen notes that actual range depends on driving style, speed, outside temperature, auxiliary equipment use, passenger and cargo loads, terrain and battery aging.
The ID. Tiguan is designed for everyday usability, offering seating for five, a 32-liter front trunk and up to 534 liters of luggage capacity. Maximum towing capacity is 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery and 2,000 kg with the 77 kWh battery. Four equipment versions will be available: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line, covering functional, comfort-oriented and sportier configurations.

Volkswagen has incorporated customer feedback into the interior, introducing new displays, physical controls and improved materials. For the first time in a European Volkswagen, the front passenger will have a dedicated 12-inch display with a 30.5-centimeter diagonal. The display joins a new 10-inch digital instrument cluster, measuring 25.4 centimeters diagonally, and a 15-inch central infotainment screen with a 38.1-centimeter diagonal.
The three screens create a continuous display layout across the dashboard. The passenger display supports infotainment, information and gaming without distracting the driver. A privacy mode, similar to the technology used in laptop privacy screens, prevents the driver from viewing its contents. Passengers can listen through paired Bluetooth headphones.

The interior combines clear design, intuitive controls, upgraded materials and ambient lighting intended to create a premium atmosphere. Volkswagen has restored physical buttons for important functions after incorporating more touch-sensitive controls into previous models. Climate control is now accessible through a button bar in the center console. The interior door openers have been redesigned for improved ergonomics, and the driver-side door panel features a revised control layout for all four power windows.
A multifunction steering wheel with physical buttons replaces touch controls. Audio volume, radio stations and track selection can be managed primarily through an accessible controller in the center console. Two Qi2-compatible inductive charging points are positioned at the front of the console. Integrated magnetic rings help align and secure compatible smartphones during wireless charging.

The new ID. Tiguan also introduces retro instrument displays inspired by the Golf IV. Drivers can activate the feature using the steering wheel’s View button, bringing up the model’s distinctive blue-and-red instrument graphics. A traditional speedometer appears on the left, while a stylized rev counter on the right becomes a power display showing energy flow rather than engine speed.
The central infotainment screen offers a corresponding retro view that can be personalized by selecting from six Volkswagen models displayed in a virtual garage: Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg and Beetle.
Volkswagen is adding technology designed to make driving easier. Standard one-pedal driving allows the driver to decelerate strongly using the accelerator pedal alone. Connected Travel Assist supports assisted lane changes on highways and can automatically stop the vehicle at red traffic lights.
Optional comfort equipment includes electrically adjustable front seats with massage, memory and ventilation functions, a 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system and a panoramic sunroof.
A Digital Key allows owners to lock, unlock and start the ID. Tiguan using a compatible smartphone. The key can be shared with family members, friends or colleagues through the Volkswagen app using text messages, messaging services or email.
The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality through an adapter that plugs into the charging socket. The PowerSocket adapter can supply electricity to external equipment, including electric grills and e-bikes, allowing the vehicle’s battery to power devices away from the electrical grid.
Volkswagen will open pre-sales for the ID. Tiguan in Germany and many other European countries on October 13, 2026. Starting prices are €42,695. Volkswagen says it will share North American timing, offer structure, pricing and other market-specific details after the European launch.
The company positions the electric SUV as a major addition to its expanding electric vehicle lineup, combining longer driving range, increased towing capacity, improved interior quality and practical technology in a midsize SUV.
