Motiv Power Systems Pilots Refrigerated Electric Truck with Carrier Transicold’s Pulsor eCool Unit

Motiv Power Systems, a pioneering force in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, primarily focusing on medium-duty trucks and buses, made an exciting announcement today. They unveiled their pilot model of a new fully integrated zero-emissions refrigerated truck, which is expected to revolutionize the modern commerce sector. This innovative vehicle features Carrier Transicold’s Pulsor eCool™ unit, one of Carrier’s most advanced refrigeration solutions designed specifically for all-electric vehicles. This partnership not only marks a significant step in sustainable transportation but also demonstrates the potential of EV technology in transforming the logistics and supply chain industry.

Motiv has announced plans to launch its refrigerated truck in the U.S. as part of a summer pilot program. This strategic move is the result of a collaboration with Carrier Transicold, a global leader in advanced transport refrigeration solutions. The cutting-edge Pulsor eCool™ technology will be seamlessly integrated with Motiv’s proprietary drive system. This union of technologies delivers a robust solution for last-mile delivery challenges, bringing together temperature-controlled electrification and innovative drive systems. This serves as a testament to the company’s commitment to continuous innovation and goals of revolutionizing the logistics and transportation sectors.

“The Carrier Transicold Pulsor eCool unit integrates perfectly with the size of delivery vehicles Motiv specializes in,” said Jim Castelaz, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Motiv Power Systems. “With zero direct emissions and the full vehicle battery integrated for both cooling and driving all day, this pilot program with Carrier Transicold enables businesses to reliably deliver refrigerated goods like food, flowers and pharmaceutical products on daily routes.”

An all-electric Motiv truck featuring the Pulsor eCool™ unit is on display at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo this week in Anaheim, California (Booth 5453).

The Pulsor eCool unit utilizes Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive™ technology, initially designed for Vector™ trailer refrigeration units. This enables fast temperature pull-down and high refrigeration capacity using electric power. The unit is specifically optimized for urban logistics players who are adopting battery-powered vehicles to ensure temperature integrity during the delivery cycle.

“Offering exceptional efficiency for its class, the Pulsor eCool unit is designed to use a light- or medium-duty electric vehicle’s battery system without requiring its own power pack,” said Scott Parker, Product Manager, Trailer Products, Carrier Transicold. “It’s an ideal fit for companies that are considering battery-powered vehicles to deliver refrigerated products in urban areas.”

The Pulsor eCool system manifests Carrier Transicold’s commitment to aiding customers in reducing their carbon footprint, specifically those deploying Motiv’s electric trucks. These fully electric refrigerated trucks align with sustainability goals and help meet stringent emissions regulations. They importantly comply with the Zero-Emission Truck TRU requirement, set forth by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which mandates adherence by the end of 2023. This regulation further emphasizes the growing necessity for innovations in clean, sustainable transport solutions.

Carrier Transicold’s Pulsor eCool system is just one of the many innovative solutions in the market that aim to reduce carbon footprint and promote sustainability. As more and more companies shift towards environmentally-friendly practices, it has become increasingly important for transport and logistics industries to adapt to these changes as well.
