EVgo, Honda Partner to Provide Honda and Acura EV Drivers Direct Access to Public Fast Charging

On September 28, 2023, EVgo Inc., one of the nation’s largest public fast charging networks for electric vehicles (EVs), announced a momentous collaboration with American Honda Motor Co. The strategic alliance formed between Honda and EVgo aims to offer numerous advantages to drivers of Honda and Acura Electric Vehicles (EVs). These benefits encompass a variety of aspects such as charging credit, technological integration into the proprietary HondaLink and Acura EV apps, and the accessibility to EVgo’s comprehensive national network along with its roaming partners.

For eligible Honda and Acura EV models, drivers can receive up to $750 in charging credit that can be utilized at EVgo charging stations all over the United States. This collaboration signifies a significant step in promoting sustainable transportation and enhancing user convenience and experience.

Honda’s latest Electric Vehicle (EV) models are set to hit the North American market in early 2024, bolstering the EV landscape with advanced technology and innovative design. These cutting-edge vehicles will have access to over 900 public fast charging locations across the extensive EVgo network. This access facilitates quick and convenient charging on the go, with certain EVgo stations offering up to 350kW fast chargers.

Moreover, the partnership allows drivers to access an expansive array of fast charging and Level 2 stations through EVgo’s roaming partners. In a move to streamline user experience, the partnership will integrate EVgo Inside™, EVgo’s APIs, directly into the HondaLink and Acura EV apps. This enables drivers of Honda and Acura EVs to register for or link to an existing EVgo account, locate nearby EVgo charging stations, check real-time charger availability, and initiate a charging session all within a single app. This pioneering integration underscores the commitment of both Honda and EVgo to deliver a seamless and efficient EV driving experience.

“Access to convenient and reliable fast charging is key to accelerating the mass adoption of electric transportation,” said Cathy Zoi, CEO of EVgo. “We’re thrilled to welcome drivers of Honda and Acura EV models to the EVgo network with a streamlined customer experience through EVgo Inside.”

Honda will incorporate NACS into all new EV models beginning in 2025

This summer, Honda made a significant announcement, declaring that starting from 2025, the automaker will incorporate the North American Charging Standard (NACS) into all new EV models. This strategic move aligns with the broader industry trend towards standardizing EV charging infrastructure and enhancing compatibility across different EV models. In a parallel development, EVgo, earlier this year, announced its plans to integrate NACS connectors into its fast chargers spread across the country. This forward-looking step by EVgo is primed to bolster its network’s ability to support drivers of all EV models in the long run, demonstrating the company’s commitment to evolve in tandem with the rapidly changing EV landscape. These developments collectively signify progressive strides in the direction of achieving greater convenience and interoperability for EV users across the North American continent.
