EVgo and Amazon Partner, Enabling EV Drivers to Locate and Pay for Charging with Alexa

In a significant step towards enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience, EVgo Inc. (NASDAQ: EVGO), one of the largest public fast-charging networks in the US, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Amazon. Leveraging Amazon’s Alexa’s capabilities, this collaboration aims to provide an intuitive, voice-controlled EV charging experience. Users will be able to ask Alexa to locate nearby EV charging stations, navigate to them, and even initiate and pay for charging sessions seamlessly at EVgo stations. As part of their commitment to revolutionizing the EV charging landscape, the companies plan to extend this functionality to vehicles equipped with Alexa, as well as automotive accessories such as Echo Auto, later this year.

“We want Alexa to be useful for customers in their everyday lives, and EV charging is a great example of a task that can be simplified and made more convenient through the power of AI,” says Anes Hodžić, Vice President, Amazon Smart Vehicles. “By partnering with EVgo, we’re bringing Alexa’s AI and multi-modal experiences to improve the EV charging experience for drivers and streamline the process of locating, initiating and paying for a charging session.”

The integration of Amazon’s Alexa with EV charging is set to leverage key features of PlugShare™, the leading EV community within the EVgo Inc. family, and EVgo Inside™. This collaboration ensures an integrated experience with the Alexa app, facilitated by the PlugShare API. Users will have the ability to locate nearby charging stations, gain access to a comprehensive map of public EV charging points, and experience a seamless charging process, all built upon a decade’s worth of experience in serving the world’s largest community of EV drivers. The integration with EVgo Inside™ further enhances the user experience, allowing customers to register for a new EVgo account, locate EVgo charging stations, initiate charging sessions, and complete payments—all within the Alexa app. Looking towards the future, customers will also have the capability to check real-time charger availability and access session and billing information.

“EVgo and Amazon’s shared principles of being customer-centric and committed to a sustainable future make innovative experiences like voice-initiated charging possible,” said Cathy Zoi, CEO at EVgo. “From Autocharge+ to charging with Alexa, EVgo is committed to continuing to raise the bar for convenience of EV ownership for our customers. EVgo is proud to be Amazon’s first charging network partner to enable this Alexa experience, and support its Climate Pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.”

As EVgo continues to diversify its partnerships across various industries, the collaboration with Amazon serves as a testament to EVgo’s commitment to promoting sustainability and advancing electrification goals. With a robust portfolio of charging solutions and cutting-edge technology offerings, EVgo has demonstrated its capacity to lead in the electrification landscape. This partnership offers Amazon customers access to more than 150,000 public charging stations across the U.S., as listed on PlugShare™. It exemplifies a significant stride in the ongoing efforts to make EV charging more convenient and accessible, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
