Kia Announces 2027 EV3 Prices for North America as Its Most Affordable EV

Kia’s new EV3 is one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the U.S., starting at just $29,890. In Canada, it is the lowest-priced EV on the market, according to Kia.

The 2027 Kia EV3 is finally coming to North America. In the U.S., it starts at $29,890, making it not only Kia’s most affordable EV, but also one of the cheapest electric vehicles available in the country.

Kia offers the entry-level electric SUV in five trims: Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line and GT. The EV3 Light FWD uses a 58.3-kWh battery with an EPA-estimated range of up to 221 miles. The Wind, Land, GT-Line and GT use a larger 81.4-kWh battery that provides up to 321 miles of range.

Front-wheel-drive models use a single electric motor producing 201 horsepower. All-wheel drive costs an additional $3,200 and adds a rear motor, increasing total output to 261 horsepower. The GT produces up to 288 horsepower.

The EV3 comes with a native NACS charging port. The 58.3-kWh battery can charge from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes with a 350-kW DC fast charger, while the 81.4-kWh battery takes about 31 minutes.

In Canada, the 2027 EV3 starts at CA$36,995, making it the country’s lowest-priced EV, Kia said. The Canadian lineup includes the same battery choices and Wind, Land, GT-Line and GT trims, although additional configurations are offered. The 58.3-kWh battery provides up to 356 km (221 miles) of range, while the 81.4-kWh battery delivers up to 517 km (321 miles).

Inside, the EV3 features Kia’s ccNC connected car Navigation Cockpit, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. The dashboard has nearly 30 inches of digital displays, including dual 12.3-inch driver and infotainment screens and a 5-inch climate-control display.

Every EV3 also includes i-Pedal 3.0 one-pedal driving, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability and Smart Cruise Control as standard equipment.

The 2027 EV3 is now on sale in the U.S. and Canada, with Kia expecting vehicles to begin arriving at dealerships later this month.

The EV3 enters the market alongside affordable EVs such as the Chevy Bolt EV and Nissan LEAF, both starting at around $30,000 in the U.S. However, the EV3 offers up to 321 miles of range with its larger battery and is the only one of the three available with all-wheel drive.

The U.S. Needs More Affordable EVs as Inflation Squeezes Consumers

The United States needs more affordable electric vehicles, particularly as skyrocketing inflation continues to put pressure on household budgets during a declining economy. ABC News reported that CNN polling found just 23% of Americans rating the economy as good and 77% rating it poorly. Inflation rose 3.5% in June compared to a year earlier.

The Consumer Price Index increased 3.4% over the 12 months ending in July 2026, while inflation-adjusted wages declined 0.2% year over year.

Transportation is one area where lower-cost EVs could make a meaningful difference. Consumers do not necessarily need another $60,000 electric SUV loaded with technology. They need practical vehicles that provide enough range for daily driving without requiring a huge monthly payment. That means automakers need to put greater emphasis on affordability.

The market is finally moving in that direction. In addition to Kia’s exciting new EV3, Chevrolet has brought back the Bolt for the 2027 model year with a starting price of $27,600 before destination charges and a claimed 262 miles of range. The Slate EV truck is coming soon, a highly customizable electric vehicle with a starting price of $24,950.

Affordable EVs are especially important because the purchase price is only part of the equation. Electricity can be cheaper than gasoline for many drivers, EVs require less routine maintenance and electric motors have fewer mechanical components than internal combustion engines. Those savings can become increasingly valuable when consumers are already dealing with higher costs for housing, insurance, food and other necessities.
