Jaguar Type 01 EV Signals New Era With New York World Premiere
Jaguar unveiled the Type 01, the most technologically advanced and powerful Jaguar in the brand’s history, during a world premiere in New York. The luxury four-door GT combines dramatic design, advanced electric technology and high-performance capability as Jaguar begins a new chapter for the British brand. JLR Media released the news on October 7, 2026.
New York provided the setting for the Type 01’s global debut, with Jaguar taking over portions of the city with large-scale digital displays in Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side. The vehicle then made a dynamic arrival at STORIED in West Chelsea for an exclusive event celebrating the new model and Jaguar’s renewed creative direction.
Type 01 features a low roofline, long bonnet, sleek silhouette and dramatic proportions. Jaguar says the design began with a single line and a blank sheet of paper, resulting in what the company describes as its most aerodynamic and powerful road car. The design also draws a clear connection to Jaguar’s heritage, including legendary models such as the E-type and XJS.

Beneath the exterior is Jaguar’s bespoke Electric Architecture. Type 01 produces more than 1,000 PS and uses an 850-volt electrical architecture. The vehicle has an EPA-rated range of 400 miles and can add 200 miles of range in 13 minutes when using a 350-kW charger. Jaguar positions the combination of power, aerodynamic performance and charging capability as a new benchmark for the brand.
Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover said Type 01 brings together dramatic design and an engaging driving experience while distilling the essence of Jaguar into a luxury grand tourer for a new era. The company describes the model as the foundation of its renewed brand direction, combining design and engineering without compromising its pursuit of desirable vehicles.

The New York premiere also introduced acclaimed actor Florence Pugh as Jaguar’s inaugural brand ambassador for its new era. Jaguar said Pugh represents the originality, fearlessness and creative spirit associated with the brand’s renewed identity. She joined guests at STORIED to celebrate the global arrival of Type 01.
The event also featured an intimate performance by British singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro, who was named Best New Artist at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. Chef Roze Traoré created an exclusive culinary program inspired by Jaguar’s creative vision.
The Type 01 reveal included several displays examining the development of the vehicle. A single design line created by Jaguar designers was reproduced in aluminum as a symbol of the design vision enabled by engineering. The Impossible Panel highlighted the effort required to bring the vehicle’s dramatic body shape into production, while tire marks from a test track represented the hundreds of thousands of kilometers of testing used to develop the car’s combination of composed and dynamic driving characteristics.

The reveal sequence began with Type 01 arriving dynamically at STORIED, driven by António Félix da Costa of the World Championship-winning Jaguar TCS Racing team. Jaguar described the event as its biggest moment since the brand was established in 1935.
Type 01 inaugurates Jaguar’s new generation of vehicles. Designed, developed and crafted in the UK, it is the first production Jaguar built on the company’s dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture. The platform allows Jaguar to take a new approach to vehicle proportions, design and occupant experience.
As a luxury four-door GT, Type 01 represents Jaguar’s renewed vision of modern luxury, combining dramatic styling, craftsmanship and technology. Its name reflects both Jaguar’s heritage and its all-electric future. “Type” references the company’s iconic predecessors, “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and “1” identifies the model as the first of a new generation.
Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 are scheduled to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of 2027. Pricing will start at £130,000.
Jaguar’s Internal Combustion Engine Era Ended in December 2025
Jaguar ended production of its final F-PACE at the Solihull plant on December 19, 2025, marking the end of Jaguar’s internal combustion engine era. The F-PACE had been Jaguar’s first SUV and ultimately became its best-selling model.
The final black F-PACE SVR was preserved by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust rather than sold, joining Jaguar’s historic collection at Gaydon. The milestone also marked the end of a decade of work by Solihull employees who helped build the vehicle.
Jaguar is now embracing an all-electric future, the first major Western automaker in modern history to do so.
Jaguar’s decision to end ICE production illustrates the accelerating shift away from combustion engines as automakers prepare for an increasingly electric automotive market. On October 4, 2026, EVinfo.net reported that the share of gasoline-only cars in global new vehicle sales fell below 50% for the first time ever as the Strait of Hormuz crisis and resulting record-high fuel prices accelerated the shift toward electric vehicles (EVs) outside China.
