Celebrate World EV Day, September 9, 2025
Each year, the global electric mobility movement gains new traction as individuals, businesses, and governments unite to champion sustainable transport. World EV Day, founded by Ade Thomas in collaboration with Green.TV and ABB, is at the heart of this momentum. Since its inception on September 9, 2020, this annual celebration has emerged as the largest emobility campaign in the world, now entering its sixth iteration in 2025.
World EV Day is more than a date on the calendar, it’s a powerful day of activations and announcements designed to accelerate the emobility movement globally. From political attention in the UK Parliament to recognition by the past White House’s climate advisors, the campaign has amplified the conversation around electric vehicles and clean transportation.
In 2023 alone, World EV Day generated over 200 million impressions across 119 countries. This year’s event features participation from major brands including Ford, Nissan, Tata, Volvo Trucks, ABB, Leaseplan, FedEx, and Avanci.

Marked on September 9, 2025, this year’s theme, ““Share the Spark” and #DriveChange: a day to convey EV positivity,” invites all stakeholders to ignite excitement around electric vehicles. Individuals and organizations can join the campaign through a range of engagement opportunities, helping to shape a brighter, cleaner future.
EV Meetups remain core to World EV Day. This initiative encourages EV drivers to host events at home, dealerships, or charging hubs where they can share knowledge with those curious about making the switch. Participants receive a free social media toolkit to help promote their events and connect with a global audience.
World EV Day thrives through collaboration. In 2025, official partnerships offer tiered engagement, ranging from brand partner status to sector lead and campaign partner, each offering increased visibility and creative support. Campaign highlights include a celebrity-led multi-day tour of sustainability landmarks, offering OEMs and charge point operators a global stage to showcase innovation. Also new for 2025 is the EV Photographer of the Year competition, a chance to spotlight creative talent across the emobility ecosystem.
The campaign’s impact is amplified through a diverse range of official partners spanning industry leaders, non-profits, and public institutions. Organizations such as Auto Trader, CALSTART, Sainsbury’s Smart Charge, Octopus Electroverse, Milence, and Avanci reflect the campaign’s broad reach, demonstrating how every sector can play a role in accelerating the transition to clean transportation.
World EV Day also fosters knowledge-sharing through research and publications. A 2022 white paper developed with Ipsos in collaboration with Shell Recharge and Connected Kerb highlighted key barriers and enabling factors in EV adoption, reinforcing the need for clarity, affordability, and intuitive user experiences. Additionally, the campaign blog serves as a powerful storytelling platform, with posts covering global EV meetups, innovations in grid infrastructure, and case studies like New York Power Authority’s sustainable charging rollout or Milence’s European electric truck strategy.
Why World EV Day Matters
World EV Day unites governments, businesses, and individuals to amplify the transition to sustainable mobility on both global and grassroots levels. By focusing on optimism and inclusivity, the campaign encourages engagement rather than confrontation. Its wide range of creative initiatives, from EV meetups to celebrity tours to photo competitions, helps reach audiences far beyond traditional policy discussions. Research initiatives and thought leadership deepen public understanding and help overcome adoption barriers, while powerful partnerships demonstrate that decarbonizing transport requires not only technology but collaboration and shared vision.
