CALSTART Rebrands as Catalyst Mobility and Combines With Forth

CALSTART announced a new name, Catalyst Mobility™, on September 14, 2026, marking a new chapter for the clean transportation nonprofit. The announcement came during the Forth Roadmap Conference, where CALSTART President and CEO Michael Berube outlined the organization’s renewed focus on advancing clean, equitable and affordable transportation solutions for people and goods.

Berube also announced that Forth, a national nonprofit focused on transportation electrification, will combine with Catalyst Mobility at the beginning of 2027. The combination will bring together the organizations’ missions, programs and partner networks while expanding access to funding, grants and public contracts. It will also strengthen Catalyst Mobility’s presence in the Pacific Northwest through a regional office in Portland, Oregon, where Forth is headquartered.

As one organization, Catalyst Mobility will work to scale the clean transportation industry globally through innovative programs, forward-looking policies and emerging technologies designed to expand mobility choices and accelerate market transformation.

“For more than three decades, this organization has existed to catalyze a cleaner, more competitive transportation industry with our members and partners,” said Berube. “This new name does not change who we are. It sharpens how we show up for the next chapter by highlighting how we’re Building Clean Transportation Together™.”

“Everyone deserves access to clean, affordable transportation, and we’re building the organization needed to make that a reality,” said Jeff Allen, Executive Director of Forth. “With the combination of Forth and CALSTART, we strengthen our ability to create a transportation system that is equitable and works for everyone.”

Catalyst Mobility Board Chair Henrik Holland said clean transportation technology is advancing rapidly across passenger and freight applications, while operators continue to face gaps involving standards, infrastructure, financing and the electric grid. He described Catalyst Mobility as a place where those challenges can be addressed by bringing together a broad range of stakeholders.

For more than 30 years, CALSTART worked with industry, government and community partners to advance clean transportation. The organization said its growth and the maturation of the clean transportation industry made its previous name less representative of its current identity.

Forth developed long-running electric vehicle and charging infrastructure programs across the United States and expanded into emerging transportation areas including agriculture and micromobility. Its membership network spans six industry sectors, with partnerships and equitable access to clean transportation central to its work.

The organizations said their complementary programs and shared goals led them to combine efforts to increase their collective impact. Catalyst Mobility will bring those capabilities together under one organization focused on advancing affordable clean transportation worldwide.

Catalyst Mobility’s mission is to bring industry, government and communities together to accelerate clean transportation solutions that are accessible to all. The nonprofit said its work supports cleaner air, climate action and economic opportunity.
