IONNA Surges Ahead in CA With Investment of $250M, Partnering With Dealerships, Groups to Host Events
On November 20, 2025, IONNA, the nationwide EV charging joint venture backed by eight major automakers, wrapped up a week-long kickoff tour across California with a major announcement: more than $250 million in new infrastructure investment planned for the state over the next three years.
The celebrations stretched from San Francisco to Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose, and Westminster, marking only a preview of what is coming. More than 1,000 charging bays are now contracted across California, and IONNA’s total U.S. pipeline has surpassed 4,000 bays. With over 1,100 bays currently under construction or nearing activation, the company is shifting from breaking ground to flipping the switch.
Coverage matters, but IONNA says reliability is what will define the public charging experience. The Westminster Rechargery Beacon, the company’s first flagship location, embodies this philosophy by pairing high-power chargers with amenities designed to make charging comfortable, predictable, and stress free.
As part of the rollout, IONNA is launching a California EV Education Program to support new EV drivers. After each station opening, IONNA ambassadors will partner with local dealerships and EV groups to host onsite events designed to demystify charging and welcome the EV Curious into the world of Rechargeries.
IONNA is also expanding its seamless charging experience. Five of the eight founding automakers already support Plug & Charge, including BMW, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, and Mercedes, with Honda, Stellantis, and Toyota joining by the end of 2026. Rivian and Ford have now been added as well, enabling automatic, app free charging for more drivers as integrated partners.

Just in time for the holidays, IONNA is teasing its first merch drop at shop.ionna.com, a one time release with retro styled gear that nods to the people and places that shape the network. It is an early step toward a full merchandise store coming soon.
IONNA was founded by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Kia, Stellantis, and Toyota. The company is building a nationwide network of fast charging stations with retail integration, high reliability, and strong customer support. With plans for more than 30,000 fast charging points by 2030, IONNA aims to provide the coverage drivers need and the charging experience they deserve.
EVinfo.net’s Take: Keep Going IONNA! We’ve Tried Your Charging and Love It
EVinfo.net took IONNA’s new San Diego Rechargery for a test drive recently, and the experience was impressive from start to finish. The charging was fast, the system was easy to figure out and use, and the overall environment felt like a clear step forward from the hit-or-miss public charging most drivers are used to. It is no surprise that IONNA is putting so much emphasis on reliability and customer comfort, because it shows the moment you plug in. IONNA doesn’t offer an app by choice, to cut down on the number of apps EV drivers must download. But IONNA stations are available on the ChargePoint app.

The community events built around each station launch also make perfect sense. They help new and curious drivers understand what living with an EV feels like, and they give dealers something they have desperately needed: a place to send shoppers who want to experience real world charging before buying. For anyone on the fence about going electric, a guided walk through a well built station does far more than a brochure or a spec sheet ever could.
BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Kia, Stellantis, and Toyota deserve real credit for what they are building with IONNA. The network is shaping up to be a model for how automakers can collaborate to create a seamless, high quality charging experience. The more OEMs who follow this example, the better it will be for drivers, for dealers, and for the entire fast-growing, exciting EV transition.
