Uber Expands EV Grant Nationwide, for Drivers Struggling With High Fuel Prices, up to $6,500 for EV Switch

On April 1, 2026, CNN reported that rideshare drivers were on the brink of quitting over higher gas prices. Tamira Moncur, a teacher who works part-time as a Lyft driver, told CNN she didn’t fill up her tank at an Atlanta-area gas station last month because she was afraid she couldn’t afford it.

“I’m working now for rideshare, but I don’t know what that’s going to look like next week. Because if gas is $4 a gallon, I’m done,” Moncur told CNN.

CNN reported that Americans have spent more than $8 billion more in the last month due to the Iran war to fill up their tanks, according to Gas Buddy. The national average for a gallon of regular gas passed $4 for the first time since 2022 on March 31, 2026, up more than a dollar in March.

Uber Expands “Go Electric” EV Grant Nationwide, Offering Drivers Up to $6,500 in Savings

Uber Technologies is expanding its “Go Electric” grant program to all U.S. drivers, making up to $6,500 in EV purchase incentives available nationwide.

Originally launched in October 2025 alongside the rebranding of “Uber Green” to “Uber Electric,” the Go Electric grant offered drivers in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and New York City up to $4,000 toward the purchase of a used EV. Following strong early uptake, Uber is now extending the program across the country and layering in additional savings through new partnerships.

Drivers can now combine the $4,000 base grant with a $1,000 discount through TrueCar on any new or used EV, or save up to $2,500 on select Kia models, $1,000 off the Niro EV or EV6 and $1,500 off the EV9, bringing total potential savings to $6,500.

The expansion comes as Uber reports accelerating EV adoption on its platform. Over 286,000 EVs are now active on its global rideshare network, up from roughly 200,000 last October. Uber says its drivers are switching to electric vehicles up to five times faster than the general driving public in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

“As this shift accelerates, it means more savings for drivers and cleaner air and cities for everyone,” said Andrew Cornelia, Uber’s Global Head of Electrification & Sustainability.

Applications for the $4,000 EV grant open April 16, 2026.

Gas Savings for U.S. Drivers & Couriers

Uber is significantly expanding fuel discounts and incentives for U.S. drivers and couriers through May 26, 2026, in response to rapid increases in gas prices nationwide.

The expanded program increases savings across three channels: Upside, Shell Fuel Rewards, and the Uber Pro Card.

Through Upside, drivers and couriers can now receive up to $1.00 off per gallon, up from a previous maximum of 25 cents, with savings based on Uber Pro or Uber Eats Pro tier. Through Shell Fuel Rewards, the per-gallon discount increases to up to 21 cents, up from 7 cents. Both offers can be combined with the Uber Pro Card for additional savings.

The Uber Pro Card is also receiving a boost, with all drivers and couriers receiving an additional 5% cash back at any U.S. gas station on top of existing rates. Updated cash back tiers are as follows: Blue/Green earns 7% (up from 2%), Gold earns 8%, Platinum earns 9%, and Diamond earns 11%. Top-tier cardholders can earn an additional 3% at Exxon or Mobil stations and 1% at Mastercard Easy Savings locations, bringing the maximum cash back rate to 15% at the pump.

Combined, top-tier drivers and couriers can save up to $1.44 per gallon using all available offers. The expanded discounts take effect March 27 and run through May 26, 2026.
