Driving electric vehicle adoption

U.S. National Drive Electric Month Events, September 11-October 12, 2026

National Drive Electric Month returns September 11 through October 12, 2026, giving consumers across the United States and beyond an opportunity to learn about electric transportation directly from EV owners and community advocates. The nationwide celebration promotes the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars, trucks, motorcycles and other electric vehicles.

The campaign is built around local participation. EV enthusiasts, community leaders and people simply curious about driving electric can attend events, volunteer, host activities or help promote the campaign. Events provide opportunities to see EVs firsthand, talk with owners and learn how electric vehicles fit into everyday transportation.

National Drive Electric Month has evolved considerably since it began in 2011 as a single day of EV celebrations. It expanded into a week-long nationwide effort before becoming a month-long campaign. Today, hundreds of local community events are held across the U.S. and beyond. Plug In America, Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club, EVHybridNoire, and Drive Electric USA lead the campaign in collaboration with national partners, local organizations, volunteers and event organizers.

The grassroots nature of the campaign is important because experiencing an EV can answer questions that specifications and advertising cannot. Test drives, conversations with owners and local events allow prospective drivers to learn about the technology through real-world experiences. According to the campaign, its events have reached hundreds of thousands of attendees across all 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico, provided tens of thousands of test drives and connected EV drivers with their neighbors to share firsthand insights.

EVinfo.net’s Take: Grassroots Events Like These Are Important for EV Adoption

National Drive Electric Month comes at an important time for the EV industry. The transition to electric transportation is ultimately about getting people to experience the technology rather than simply hearing about it. A ride in an EV, a test drive or a conversation with someone who owns one can be far more persuasive than arguments on social media.

Grassroots events also help make EV adoption personal. Instead of treating electric vehicles as an abstract technology or political issue, National Drive Electric Month puts actual vehicles and owners in local communities. That gives consumers the opportunity to see what is available, ask questions and decide for themselves whether driving electric makes sense.

The EV transition needs more of this direct engagement. The more people experience electric vehicles firsthand, the harder it becomes for outdated perceptions and misinformation to define the conversation. National Drive Electric Month is helping turn awareness into experience, and experience into EV adoption.

CBS News reported regular gasoline soared to $4.29 on average in the U.S. Friday, September 11. Diesel prices in the U.S. has hit yet another record, soaring past $6 a gallon on average as Washington’s war with Iran disrupts the world’s flow of fuel.

Electricity powering EVs is far less volatile and expensive. EV drivers save money while providing clean air and fighting global human caused climate change.
