Driving electric vehicle adoption

Rivian’s Climate Video Wins Telly Awards

This week, Rivian’s video about the harmful effects of global human-caused climate change, “Our Only Home,” won three gold awards and two silver awards at the Telly awards.

In November 2024, EVinfo.net was proud to release a story about the compelling and informative video. Robert Joseph “RJ” Scaringe, the founder and CEO of Rivian, created a timely video discussing the urgent threat of global climate change — and the vital role electric vehicles (EVs) play in combating it. As both an engineer and entrepreneur, Scaringe brings scientific insight and a deep passion for innovation to this critical conversation.

EVinfo.net spoke with Marina Hoffmann, Communications, Leadership Team at Rivian.

Hoffmann said: “Rivian put out an amazing piece of content “Our Only Home” last year, narrated by Rivian founder & CEO RJ Scaringe. This week, the Telly Awards gave it 3 golds and 2 silvers across multiple categories. It’s a beautifully crafted work which is on point for the brand while also stretching it forward. It’s my favorite. We’re lucky to have a creative team in house who has their finger on the pulse of the brand and can encapsulate RJ’s vision into a beautiful piece of content.”

Hoffmann continued: “Big high fives to Nicholas Maher, Nathan Heleine, James Henry, Abby Matousek, Ian Ward, Clinton Kyle Hollister, Julia R. for making it happen. This team does a phenomenal job of capturing the essence of Rivian, and I am honored to work with them and see them in action. Bravo!”

A Turning Point in Human History

In the video, Scaringe doesn’t mince words: “We, as a society right now, happen to be alive at this massive inflection point for our planet, perhaps one of the most significant moments in recorded human history.”

He walks viewers through the stark reality of how our fossil fuel dependency has reversed millions of years of carbon sequestration in just 150 years. This rapid release of CO₂ is driving global temperatures higher and fueling increasingly destructive weather events — from heatwaves to superstorms.

Yet, despite the bleak trajectory, Scaringe strikes a hopeful tone: “This is the moment where we have a choice.” His vision of a post-fossil fuel future is rooted in innovation, responsibility, and urgency.

Why Electric Vehicles Matter

Scaringe highlights the need to transition from the planet’s 1.5 billion gas-powered vehicles to electric alternatives. While acknowledging the path won’t be perfect, he emphasizes that EVs become cleaner over time — especially as the power grid shifts toward renewables.

Electric vehicles are not just a solution — they’re a gateway to a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

“We need to protect our only home… for our kids and for their kids’ kids’ kids. For forever.”

Rivian: Leading the Charge

Founded by Scaringe in 2009, Rivian is quickly emerging as a leader in the electric vehicle space. The company’s mission goes beyond transportation — it’s about redefining mobility with sustainability at the core.

Rivian’s vehicle lineup blends high performance with rugged adventure, including:

R1TThe All-Electric Pickup Truck

Designed for off-road adventure and utility, the R1T offers impressive towing capacity, long-range capability, and smart tech — making it as functional on trails as it is on highways.

R1SThe All-Electric SUV

With the same rugged DNA as the R1T, the R1S provides three rows of seating and ample cargo space. It’s perfect for family adventures or group expeditions in any terrain.

EDV (Electric Delivery Van)Designed for the Planet

Through a partnership with Amazon, Rivian rolled out 20,000 custom-designed electric delivery vans. These vehicles are now deployed across cities, reducing emissions in last-mile logistics. In February 2025, Rivian announced that it opened sales of its Rivian Commercial Van to fleets of all sizes across the US.

Future: R2 Series

Looking ahead, Rivian is developing a more compact and affordable R2 line aimed at bringing EV innovation to a broader audience. These new models are expected to balance urban utility with outdoor versatility.

The Road Ahead: Fighting Climate Change While Saving Money

As Rivian scales production and expands its global footprint, the company continues to prioritize environmental impact, innovation, and customer experience. With a flagship manufacturing plant in Normal, Illinois, and international plans on the horizon, Rivian is building momentum at a pivotal time.

RJ Scaringe’s message is clear: The climate crisis is not a distant concern — it’s happening now. But through bold innovation, collective action, and cleaner technologies like EVs, we still have a chance to change the ending of this story.

The greatest feature of EVs is that they are the most eco-friendly form of transportation. However, it is important to remember that’s not the only benefit of EVs. EVs are more cost-effective over time than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Owners save money by converting to EVs from gas for many reasons, mainly that electricity is far cheaper than gasoline, and EVs require far less maintenance than gas vehicles.

EVinfo.net’s Take

We are proud to spread the word about Rivian’s bold statements in support of climate initiatives. Global human-caused climate change is a crisis threatening the entire planet in a wide variety of ways. Electric vehicle adoption is one way consumers can do their part to reduce planet-harming emissions. Solar is another. EVinfo.net was very proud to partner with EnergySage, America’s leading solar energy marketplace.

A wide variety of bad decisions by the government are under way, including the budget bill under consideration by the Senate, which will cut the federal EV tax credit, key provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act that benefit EV production and adoption, clean energy projects, and the 30% solar tax credit for homeowners. The bill would also impose new registration fees of $100 on hybrids and $250 on electric cars, while adding trillions of dollars to the national debt.

Also this week, the Senate voted to undo California’s clean air policies. California’s Clean Air Act waivers date back to the Nixon Administration – allowing the state to set standards necessary for cleaning up some of the worst air pollution in the country.

EVinfo.net urges you to speak out against these policies which will hurt America’s economy and the health of all Americans. In future elections, we ask you to support Progressive candidates on the correct side of this issue, those who promise to undo all of the current government’s mistakes, and who will support the fight for electric vehicles and the effort against human-caused global climate change.
