Driving electric vehicle adoption

MOKE International Enters CA Market With Electric Model

MOKE International has officially entered the California market in December 2025, becoming the first low-volume electric vehicle manufacturer to secure approval from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The regulatory milestone clears the way for the launch of the brand’s limited-edition “California Collection,” with pricing starting at $49,500.

The move marks MOKE International’s return to California for the first time since the 1960s. To support the rollout, the British heritage brand has appointed Shaver Automotive as its inaugural retail partner in the state. Shaver Automotive will oversee sales, vehicle delivery, and service operations, establishing a regional footprint designed to scale with demand.

California Market Entry Anchored by CARB Approval

Securing CARB approval represents a significant achievement for MOKE International, positioning it as the first low-volume EV manufacturer to meet California’s stringent emissions and compliance standards. The approval enables the company to operate fully within the state’s regulatory framework, a critical step for any automaker seeking access to the nation’s largest EV market.

Shaver Automotive, which previously led the North American relaunch of the Fiat 500, brings established retail and operational expertise to the partnership. According to Andrew Shaver, President of Shaver Automotive, the group plans to open multiple experiential retail locations across the Los Angeles area, with immediate delivery capabilities and plans for future expansion.

The California Collection

The California launch centers on the “California Collection,” a U.S.-exclusive series inspired by the original 1972 MOKE Californian, the first model sold in the United States. The collection modernizes the iconic open-air design while preserving the brand’s minimalist aesthetic and lifestyle-focused appeal.

All Electric MOKE vehicles are handcrafted in the United Kingdom, with more than 70 percent of components sourced from Europe, underscoring the company’s emphasis on build quality and controlled production.

The California Collection is offered in three market-specific colorways: Sonoma Red, a deep burgundy finish; Laguna Blue, a vibrant coastal blue; and Venice White, a classic white exterior

Unlike low-speed neighborhood electric vehicles, the Electric MOKE is fully highway-legal. It features a 100 percent lithium-ion powertrain with a top speed of 50 mph and a driving range of up to 54 miles, powered by a quiet electric motor designed for urban and coastal driving environments.

Order books are now open, with the Electric MOKE starting at $49,500. Production is intentionally limited, with just 325 units allocated for the U.S. market in 2026. Customers can reserve a build slot with a refundable $990 deposit through MOKE International.

As the California rollout begins, MOKE International continues to expand its retail and rental network across the United States and is actively seeking additional partners to support future growth.
