Orange EV Husk-E Terminal Truck Provides Power and Endurance for Fleets
Orange EV, a leading manufacturer of electric yard trucks, recently announced the launch of its Husk-e Series electric terminal truck. Engineered with precision, this groundbreaking vehicle is purpose-built to meet the challenging demands of port operations, rail, intermodal sites, and other heavy-duty applications. Its robust design and innovative electric technology offer an efficient, eco-friendly solution for transport, contributing to reduced environmental impact and operational costs.
The Husk-e Series, as stated by Orange EV, provides the power and endurance essential for fleets, encapsulating an advanced blend of functionality and sustainability. Apart from its potent electric mechanism, it augments driver safety and comfort in many ways. The design significantly lowers noise and vibration, eliminates the issues associated with diesel exhaust, and removes the need for a traditional transmission. Furthermore, the model offers improved visibility, a considerable 50% reduction in stopping distance, and a superior in-cab experience. These enhancements not only contribute to the overall performance but also revolutionize the operational experience, substantiating Orange EV’s status as a pioneer in the realm of eco-friendly transport solutions.
Kurt Neutgens, Orange EV president and CTO, said the Husk-e complements the current e-Triever offering from Orange EV by providing customers with “the big dog.”
“Husk-e has been designed specifically for port and rail power, torque, and load requirements while continuing to provide the unmatched reliability, drivability, and service that Orange EV has become known for after eight years of producing and delivering pure electric yard dogs,” said Neutgens.
Specific performance qualities of the Husk-e Series include:
- Pulling Power: The Husk-e has a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) up to 180,000 pounds, and can pull the heaviest loads, including a bomb cart chassis loaded with full-weight twin 20-ft. containers, up to 32mph.
- Speed and Acceleration: Equipped to handle faster-paced, maximum-load operations at steeper grades, the Husk-e delivers superior speed and acceleration capabilities.
- Increased Battery Capacity: The 243-kWh battery pack provides the energy required for long, hard shifts and can fully recharge in approximately two hours using 105+ kW CCS1 charging.
- Superior Battery Chemistry: Orange EV uses lithium-ion iron phosphate (LFP) batteries to maximize longevity and safety. The company has been designing and building its own battery packs since 2015, and its more than 800 commercially deployed electric trucks have amassed over 3.6 million hours of operation on their original battery packs.
- Savings: Orange EV claims that hard savings for fuel and maintenance can exceed $120,000 per year per truck in two-shift port operations. Additional savings are realised through higher uptime, smoother operation, increased productivity, and enhanced operator health and safety.
