Driving electric vehicle adoption

EVgo and MHX, LLC Partner to Power Class 8 Electric Truck Fleet

EVgo Inc., the operator of the nation’s largest public fast charging network for electric vehicles (EVs), has announced a pivotal partnership with MHX, LLC, a comprehensive logistics operator based in California. This collaboration signifies a monumental step in MHX’s inaugural foray into fleet electrification. The project’s initial step involves the establishment of EVgo fast charging infrastructure at MHX’s Fontana, California facility, supplemented by round-the-clock customer support and cutting-edge fleet charging and management solutions courtesy of EVgo Optima™ and EVgold™. The infrastructure will feature robust 350kW fast chargers with the capacity to service six vehicles simultaneously, demonstrating both companies’ commitment to promoting sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.

MHX boasts a fleet of over 60 flatbed trucks, strategically spread across its facilities throughout California. In a progressive move, the logistics operator is set to integrate 10 new Kenworth T680E Class 8 electric heavy-duty trucks into their fleet. These state-of-the-art electric trucks will be powered at the company’s Fontana, CA facility, not only aiding local clients but also bolstering operations at their Carson, CA facility. This particular facility offers Port Services out of the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach, handling local dray for break bulk commodities along with devanning and heavy weight corridor access for container movements. This pioneering project is partially funded by the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Energy Infrastructure Incentives for Zero-Emission Commercial Vehicles (Energiize) grant program and the South Coast Air Quality Management District-Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (SCAQMD-MSRC) grant program, reflecting the shared commitment of both MHX and EVgo to cleaner, greener transport solutions.

“As we explored bringing electric trucks into our fleet, we knew how important charging was to make that conversion a reality, and that an experienced partner was needed to help us navigate both the short- and long-term considerations to ensure a successful transition,” said Alex Nicholas, VP of Operations at MHX. “Our collaboration with EVgo goes beyond access to charging stations but rather a full suite of technology solutions and tools to empower MHX to streamline our transition to an electrified fleet.”

EVgo Optima™, a revolutionary cloud-based fleet charging software solution, empowers fleet partners like MHX to efficiently manage time of use (TOU) rates. This strategic management aids in mitigating peak demand charges while ensuring that vehicles are adequately charged and fully operational whenever required. It’s a balancing act of cost and efficiency, performed with precision. On the other hand, through EVgold™, MHX can leverage EVgo’s premier operations and maintenance service offering. This service is backed by a robust service level agreement-based uptime guarantee, providing a level of reliability that is crucial in the logistics sector. The offering also includes 24/7 customer support and ongoing monitoring, ensuring any issues can be swiftly identified and resolved, minimizing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency. This comprehensive suite of services reflects EVgo’s commitment to providing unparalleled support and solutions to its fleet partners.

“Fleet electrification is a complex undertaking, especially for Class 8 trucks, and EVgo has pioneered value-adding technologies like EVgo Optima to help fleet partners make the switch to save money and the environment,” said Jonathan Levy, Chief Commercial Officer at EVgo. “We look forward to powering MHX’s first foray into clean transportation and demonstrating why our combination of charging solutions make EVgo a partner-of-choice for fleets across the country.”

The Advanced Clean Truck (ACT) rule, a pivotal legislation in the pursuit of environmental sustainability, has been embraced by six states thus far – California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. This rule mandates truck manufacturers to progressively increase the sale of zero-emission trucks. More states are anticipated to implement these sales requirements within the coming year. As fleets transition in alignment with ACT regulations, EVgo’s comprehensive turnkey solutions are poised to play a critical role. These solutions are designed to equip fleet managers with the necessary tools to manage electrified medium-and heavy-duty fleets effectively and efficiently, promoting greener transportation practices while optimizing operational processes.

EVgo (Nasdaq: EVGO) stands at the forefront of electric vehicle charging solutions, consistently striving to speed up the mass adoption of electric vehicles.
