Goodwill Partners With ChargerHelp to Provide EVSE Training
Most people recognize Goodwill for its thrift stores, a place to discover affordable finds while supporting a worthy cause. Yet, the greater impact of these stores is their role as the primary funding source for Goodwill’s workforce development programs, which equip individuals in local communities with the skills and resources needed to secure employment.
Building on this mission, Goodwill Industries International has expanded into the fast-growing and exciting clean energy sector with the launch of the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator (GCTA). Supported by partners such as ChargerHelp!, GM, Lowe’s Foundation, GRID Alternatives, and the Climate & Community Lab, the GCTA is designed to connect job seekers with career opportunities in some of the most important industries in the United States.

Meeting a Growing Need
The clean energy sector in the U.S. is experiencing rapid expansion, with job growth projected to triple by the mid-2030s. Nearly 40% of these roles do not require a college degree, yet many employers are challenged to find skilled candidates. The GCTA bridges this talent gap by offering multiweek, in-person, certification-based training that directly aligns with industry demand.
Training Paths
The GCTA currently offers three specialized training paths:
Solar Installation (4 weeks)
Students are trained in electrical fundamentals, residential solar and storage systems, site evaluation, commissioning, maintenance, and customer service.
HVAC/Heat Pump Installation (5 weeks)
Students learn HVAC basics, building science, installation and maintenance, troubleshooting, and energy modeling.
Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Technician (4 weeks)
The EVSE Technician training is an intensive four-week program that equips participants with the knowledge and hands-on skills to install, commission, and maintain electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment. Trainees learn electrical energy basics, EVSE mechanics, preventative and corrective maintenance, energy systems and grid operations, EV battery fundamentals, and best practices for safe and efficient charging.
The course also covers electrical codes, workplace safety standards, and customer service excellence, preparing graduates for in-demand roles that keep EV charging networks reliable and drivers on the move.
Graduates earn multiple workplace safety and technical certifications, gain essential job readiness skills, and connect directly with local employers.
Where to Find GCTA
The Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator is currently available in:
Atlanta, GA – Goodwill of North Georgia
Detroit, MI – Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit
Denver, CO – Goodwill of Colorado
Whether you’re a job seeker looking for a fresh start or a company in need of skilled workers, GCTA is building the bridge to a cleaner, more inclusive energy future — one career at a time.
Participants graduate with multiple workplace safety and technical certifications, along with job readiness skills and direct connections to local employers.
Goodwill of Colorado Graduates First EVSE class

By maintaining reliable charging infrastructure, the company addresses one of the most significant challenges to EV adoption and supports the growing electric transportation ecosystem.
EVinfo.net’s Take
Through the GCTA, Goodwill and ChargerHelp are not only preparing individuals for high-demand clean energy careers but also strengthening the workforce that will power the nation’s transition to a sustainable future.
Electric vehicles and clean energy boost America’s economy, create jobs, save consumers money, fight global human-caused climate change, and provide residents with cleaner air. On top of this, equipping individuals in local communities with the skills and resources needed to secure employment is absolutely vital.
We commend Goodwill, ChargerHelp, and all partners involved in this noble endeavor which does tremendous good for people and the planet. We hope to see this program expand and others similar to it be created.
