The National EV Charging Initiative: Driving Progress Toward a Clean Transportation Future

The National EV Charging Initiative (NEVCI) brings together a powerful coalition of automakers, utilities, labor organizations, environmental and equity advocates, consumer groups, and public interest organizations, all united by one goal: to accelerate the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. What began as an effort to support historic federal investments has evolved into a broad collaboration that drives public-private partnerships and empowers state-level leadership.

As the policy landscape continues to shift, NEVCI is focused on sustaining momentum and creating the conditions for long-term success. The coalition champions innovative regulations, utility engagement, and private sector commitment to ensure the transition to electrification stays on track.

At the heart of NEVCI’s strategy is support for critical state-level action. This includes accelerating deployment of medium- and heavy-duty charging infrastructure, securing utility approvals for grid upgrades, backing forward-looking standards like Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) and Advanced Clean Cars II (ACC II), promoting domestic EV and battery manufacturing, and advancing new financing models to bring infrastructure projects to scale. By aligning regulatory wins with real-world deployments, NEVCI ensures states remain at the forefront of the electrification movement.

The future of transportation is electric—but realizing that future depends on a charging network that keeps pace with adoption. Today, state policies, utility actions, fleet leadership, and private investment are the real drivers of progress. NEVCI’s role is to amplify success stories, secure regulatory support, and provide the policy certainty that fosters lasting investment and deployment.

A clean transportation future is no longer a distant vision, it’s within reach. By working together and building on today’s momentum, NEVCI and its partners are making sure that future arrives faster, cleaner, and more equitably for all.
