Grounded Launches C1: World’s First 500-Mile Hybrid Mobile Command Center at Climate Week NYC
Grounded, the Detroit-based modular electric vehicle company, unveiled the C1, the world’s first hybrid mobile command center capable of a 500-mile total range, at Climate Week NYC on September 24, 2025. The C1 pairs Grounded’s configurable modular interiors with Harbinger’s next-generation commercial EV truck platform to create a durable, adaptable, and sustainable vehicle built to support governments, nonprofits, municipalities, and mission-critical responders. Grounded developed the C1 in collaboration with Harbinger and with contributions from key suppliers Hendrickson and Sevna, which provided components and engineering support to ensure the vehicle meets demanding operational requirements.
EVinfo.net spoke with Jay Klemp, VP of Sales at Harbinger Motors, about Harbinger’s role in development of the C1.
“Harbinger is revolutionizing the medium duty truck space with a better chassis and cab chassis that has ever come to market. It happens to be electric. The TCO showing near price parity to diesel at time of purchase is why I can make that statement. We have a better solution for the medium duty space than has ever been introduced in the past. It will change this space,” Klemp said.

Designed to serve as a mobile public-safety command hub, a mobile health clinic for outreach and vaccinations, and a rapid-deployment disaster response asset, the C1 delivers secure communications, long-duration power, and flexible interiors that can be reconfigured for different missions. Chief Product Officer Nadia Meyer emphasized design and human factors, saying the C1 “puts intuitive systems first, enabling responder comfort, endurance, and the ability to act faster when it matters.”
Technically, the C1 is available in multiple wheelbases and in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid configurations. The hybrid variant follows an electric-first architecture with a gasoline range extender that supplies propulsion and onboard loads to reach a combined 500-mile range; roof-mounted solar panels and a dedicated “house” battery further extend off-grid endurance for remote or disaster-impacted environments. Safety and connectivity are integrated throughout the vehicle with lane-keeping assist, pedestrian braking, and parking assistance.

Charging compatibility spans CCS networks such as Electrify America and Ford’s BlueOval ecosystem and includes access to NACS. Each unit ships with Harbinger’s eight-year/100,000-mile platform warranty and is serviceable through Harbinger’s growing national support network.
Every C1 links to the Grounded+ companion app, enabling real-time energy monitoring, remote appliance control, and predictive diagnostics designed to reduce downtime and operating costs. Grounded will offer the vehicle in tiered editions—from streamlined municipal builds to fully outfitted flagship configurations—under the C1 Core, C1 Advanced, and C1 Pro designations to meet different agency needs and mission profiles. Orders are being accepted immediately, with first deliveries slated for the second quarter of 2026 and final pricing to vary by configuration and upfit.

By combining long-range hybrid capability, modular mission-specific interiors, and a supplier ecosystem that includes Harbinger, Hendrickson, and Sevna, Grounded positions the C1 as a new class of sustainable emergency response vehicle designed to keep communities operational when they need it most.
