One of America’s First Publicly Accessible EV Truck Charging Stations Opening Soon in CA

On January 9, 2026, bp pulse announced on Linkedin the imminent opening for one of America’s first publicly accessible ultrafast charging stations for Class 6–8 electric trucks, catering to drivers and fleet operators in the Ontario, CA region. This milestone marks bp pulse’s first operational electric truck charging hub in the United States, with plans to expand the network nationwide.

The new station is designed to meet the growing needs of medium- and heavy-duty EV fleets, providing reliable, high-capacity charging along key transport routes. Fleet operators and truck drivers can expect four 400 kW CCS pull-through chargers and two 750 kW Tesla Megacharger System (MCS) pull-through bays, enabling rapid charging for a variety of commercial EV trucks.

bp pulse is committed to offering dependable service with minimal downtime and no blocking fees, ensuring smooth operations for delivery, logistics, and freight operators. Strategically located near major highways and logistics hubs, the Ontario station will help reduce charging downtime and accelerate the adoption of electric trucks across Southern California.

This first-of-its-kind hub represents a significant step in bp’s broader EV and fleet electrification strategy, highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions and zero-emission mobility. With this launch, bp pulse aims to support the transition of commercial fleets to electric power while laying the foundation for a nationwide network of high-capacity truck charging stations.

In July 2024, TravelCenters of America (TA), a key member of the bp portfolio, began construction on one of the nation’s first publicly accessible medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) electric vehicle charging stations at its TA Ontario, California travel center. This pilot project, developed in partnership with the California Energy Commission, marked a significant step in expanding infrastructure for larger commercial EVs, including delivery trucks, freight vehicles, and other heavy-duty applications.

The new charging hub aligns with bp’s broader convenience and EV charging strategy, aiming to support fleet operators, long-haul drivers, and commercial logistics companies as the market transitions toward zero-emission transportation. By offering high-capacity, publicly accessible chargers, the station addresses a critical gap in MHD EV infrastructure, helping to accelerate adoption of electric trucks across California and, eventually, nationwide.

TA’s Ontario location was strategically chosen due to its proximity to major transportation corridors and dense logistics operations, ensuring easy access for fleet operators and truck drivers. The initiative reflects both TA’s and bp’s commitment to sustainable mobility and reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector.

This project represents a collaboration between private industry and state energy authorities, showcasing how public-private partnerships can advance the deployment of heavy-duty EV infrastructure. Once operational, the charging station is expected to serve as a model for future MHD EV charging hubs across the United States, reinforcing TA’s position as a pioneer in supporting the next generation of electric fleets.

TravelCenters of America (TA) is a leading network of travel centers and fuel stops across the United States, serving professional drivers, commercial fleets, and travelers with fuel, food, and convenience services. As part of the bp portfolio, TA supports transportation and logistics operations with a focus on safety, reliability, and emerging mobility solutions, including electric vehicle charging infrastructure. With locations strategically positioned along major highways, TA provides essential services for long-haul drivers and fleets, while pioneering initiatives such as medium- and heavy-duty EV charging stations to support the transition to zero-emission commercial transportation.

bp pulse is bp’s global electric vehicle charging network, providing fast, reliable, and accessible EV charging solutions for drivers and fleets across public and commercial locations. Focused on supporting the transition to zero-emission mobility, bp pulse operates a growing portfolio of AC and DC fast chargers, including high-power hubs for medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks.
